I remember the day decimalisation started as it was the day the Hotel Nelson opened in Norwich and as I had returned to Norwich just before Christmas 1970, had taken on a job there waitressing for a change. What a battle, learning a new job with everything new and not gelled, kitchen staff, equipment etc and trying to get to grips with decimalisation at the same time. Didn't have tills in the bars as they do now, had to add things up ourselves and the same with some of the meals too. Great fun tho and happy memories. |
