I have read P.S. I love you a couple of months ago and thought it was lovely. I usually get through a book a week reading every spare minute I can find, which isn't as much as I would like. i buy loads of books from charity shops etc and do donate a few back but at the mo am hanging on to too many so will have to have a sort out soon. Our local supermarket has a shelf inside the doors where people leave books and if you pick one up, you put 25 p in the charity tin,and it helps local charities. Then you can put the book back when you have finished it and someone else can buy it. Have loads of books still to be read - all I need is a warm summer and time to lounge about a bit - heaven. I was just emailing Felicity who has been kind enough to knit something for baby Sam and we were talking about books then.

Hi Ann Guess what??? I am reading Witchfinders for Greaders at the moment! Some lovely books mentioned on this thread - Curious Incident, 5 people you meet in Heaven, PS I Love you - really enjoyed all of those and of course the Kathy Reichs with the yummy Andrew Ryan! Have got in my piles (so to speak!) 2 James Pattersons, Memoirs of a Geisha, Geisha (non-fiction I think) and one about Potter's Field (where they do Forensic experiments in the US on real dead bodies - sorry, I'm a bit gory!!). plus whatever Greaders chooses for next month. A lot of interesting reading material here. I must remember to make a note of some of the books I like the look of. i have loads of books waiting to be read but still can't resist buying new ones. (Must be a bookaholic!). I do have one of Diana Galbaldins downstairs waiting to be read. The next one in a series I have read, time shift in scotland, it is very big though and a hardback so heavy to hold which is a bit off putting. Just read a page of Byzantium, looks as if that is going to be a difficult read. Ann Glos

Phoenix Report 19 May 2006 21:32

Ann - you right, the main reason for not joining the club right now is because I couldn't get through a book in a month - unless it was exceptionally good. I've had a lot going on recently, but things should settle down now and I'll have more time - once I've read Labyrinth I will probably join up again and will probably come back on here more often too, been a bit of a stranger this year. lol I will find the thread that reviews Labyrinth - I've only read a dozen pages or so and so far it seems good, but I'm not sure if it will be my cup of tea - I just fancied reading something different and that's why I bought it. I read a lot of Stephen King books and love them, but it's always nice to try something different. A really good series is Jean Auel's 'Earth's Children' - I've read book one 'Clan of the Cavebear' and it was brilliant, I have the rest of the series to read, but haven't got to them yet. So many books and so little time. lol Like some of the rest of you I love books and buy far too many, but the good ones get passed on to my Sister and Mother and then on to Charity etc. The really good ones I like to keep in my Bookcase though - I have a lovely big Pine Bookcase full of books and I think it's a nice feature. Maybe I'll join the book club again next month - see how busy I am. Kaye x

Last book was the latest in the series by Diana Gabaldon. She is a doctor who has time travelled from 20th century Scotland to 18th century America. I think this her the fifth book. She has married and trying to prepare her family for the War of Independence. A brilliant read. I am now reading Only Dad by Alan Titchmarch. Won't give the plot away but it really made me cry after a few chapters.

'The Last Templar' by Raymond Khoury, he wrote the TV series Waking the Dead. It is on similar lines to the DV Code, ie about religion, also a thriller. The main characters are a female archaeologist and an FBI agent. Not qiute finished it, but it's gripping stuff! Sue

Hi Ann I've managed to read Brave New World and started on Byzantium the other day (another 'big' book!). Not sure I'll get round to Witchfinders though. I'm enjoying being part of the GReaders book club as it means I get to read books I would never have otherwise chosen. Jeanette x

AAAAAWW!! Thanks deanna!!! that's nice of you to say so :-))) I might be of the 'younger generation' but was always taught to give back if you can and this is my ways of doing just that!! Just freaked Polly Anna out :-))))) Fink we musta known each other in a previous life or sumat....we have many similarities,eh Polly Anna??? :-))))))) It's quite uncanny though, if a little unnerving!!

AnninGlos Report 19 May 2006 16:43

Deanna, Strange, that is the reason I joined the book club, because I make myself read what is chosen. The strange thing is, with a couple of exceptions, I have enjoyed books that I would never have chosen for myself. we actually dn't operate as a tru book club should, we don't discuss the books, just review them. but I understand what you mean. Deanna Report 19 May 2006 16:35

Not at all Ann. I can read a book a week if I am enjoying it. And I am NEVER without a book on the go... since I could read! The reason I don't enjoy book clubs is the fact that everyone chooses together which book to read. I need to read what I like when I want to... disobedient me!! I read 'Don Quixotte' at school for English. HATED every word of it and had to drag myself through it. Last year I read it to my husband (we do that... read to eachother sometimes) I LOVED IT and so did he. It was such a funny book, sad too. A really good book, wasted on the young!! Deanna X
