Havnt been able to catch his wife, Jean, until earlier today.. She's been too and fro all week and i didnt want to intrude... Anyway, she was called to the hospital at 5am the other morning as they though 'that was it'...But cliff had other ideas....lol... The doc told Jean and her family that they will not attempt to revive him when he goes, he has renal, heart , and lung problems.. The family had traveled up from Sheffield and have pretty much lived at the hospital over the past week.. The news today is that Cliff (who fought in the war) is fighting back..he was to be taken off the drips/machines today and was sitting up..Jean wasnt going in today as she is exhausted, emotionally and physically.. I know that sometimes people do seem to get better before the 'go', but if he's not giving up yet neither are we.... Will let you know how he gets on..What a fantastic old guy he is!!! All our prayers for him tonight, and his family. Our Dad died of emphysema too, he was only 61, I never knew what he had until it afterwards but it was not nice. Mags. x

Sorry you lost your dad so young...mine was in his fourties when he died..it's devastating.... I dont really know what emph (sorry cant spell it, lol) entails, but know it's not good at all...Poor cliff only has one kidney (was born that way) and it failed too..poor old guy... LOU XXXXXXXXXXX

Brave of Cliff to fight but so hard for his wife and family to see him so ill, maybe he wants time to say all he has to say to them before letting go, bless him.

Well, after yesterdays disater with her telephone wire and fence Jean managed to get to the hospital to see the doctors that are looking after Cliff... He has improved so much over the past week the doctors dont know what to make of it..He was having a cuppa in the 'lounge' room of the hospital when she arrived- not bad for a bloke who has heart, lung and kidney faliour! (docs diagnosis!lol) Jean was talking about them possibly sending him home but she's worried that he'll need constant care and she cant cope.. She was upset as Cliff is asking to 'come home' and she knows he'll probably have to be in a care home now.... Still, at least he's doing better now, for a ninty odd year old he's doing really well... LOU XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

My goodness. That sounds amazing. That generation are a hardy lot aren't they? Surely, they can't send him home like that. Even though he's made a mysteriously, marvellous recovery, he's still quite a sick man and his wife wouldn't be able to cope if anything untoward happened. I'll look in for your next report some time tomorrow. Margaret

Will try and catch their daughter tomorrow for an update... Like i said, people (and pets ) often get a bit better before they 'go', still, i dont want to say that to Jean when she's being so positive... I keep passing on all positive thoughts to Jean and Cliff, so thankyou to all of you for posting.... LOU XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

This must be taking its toll on Jean bless her and she will feel so guilty if he has to go into a home, but how could she look after him at home, bless her. I do hope things work out well for both of them. Liz

How is he now, Lou?

Toothfairy

Toothfairy Report 2 Jun 2006 23:23

Oh, hello Joy! Cliff has been doing great...Jean was off to see him this morning and said they were starting to get him up, a physiotherapist was manovering his legs to get him back on his feet...... Jean has spoken to doctor who has assured her there will be a home help for her...Then she saw on the news the NHS cant afford them so she's worried they'll send him home and no one will come to care for him..... Anyway, like she says, she's taking one day at a time, Last week she thought it was the last time she was going to see him, she's making the most of the time they have together..... Thankyou to everyone who has sent thoughts and prayers... LOu XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx
