Hi I'm going to risk putting this on here as you have said OH is away. Does madam show off her tummy much? If she doesn't you could try asking your vet to do the spey from there, rather than the side as they usually do. One of our ferals was done that way & if it wasn't for her ear clip I wouldn't know. Sneaky, I know but so much better for her. Vivienne xx

As I said before, why not get your other half to call the vet and ask his opinion on which would be the kindest thing for your cat, or email him explaining the problem and get him to email you back so you have it in writing from someone who knows. Surely o.h. can't deny that if it is for the cat's own good. He is being very selfish I am sorry to say.

Thanks Lesley, OH again....I can not get through to him on this one...! The other two who were done as kittens are fine and never been any trouble, but his spoilt little madam....She is still happily basking in the sun......She is not off her food this time but she usually does.....I was hoping there was a time when she would grow out of it.....It does seem longer in between now and doesn't last as long.....Blooming cats, always had them..and one dog, a lovely King Charles Cavilier....long gone now....

Polly My 6 year old cat used to belong to a breeder and she's had several litters of kittens. She'd recently had a litter of kittens when we first got her. The intention was to wait a while until she got used to her new home, new cats (all neutered), and got over just leaving her kittens. To be fair she hadn't seen the kittens for a few weeks. In the end the vet said to bring her round to get neutered earllier than we planned because we couldn't bear to watch her in so much pain being on heat. She was a crazy cat, constantly on heat. She was a lot calmer immediately after the operation. She didn't hold it against us one bit considering we were her new owners (she'd only been with us 3-weeks) and had taken her to the vet. Ask you vet for his/her opinion. x lesley

Thank you all, the two 15 yearold cats were done as kittens and never been any bother, it is the 8 or 9 years old one.....Will show this lot to him, the thought of her being in pain might make him take her,,,,She is just sitting in the sun now....They are all indoor cats and used to it....We like our birds too much to let them out...

I have read the thread now & please tell your OH that he is being cruel to leave her like this. The op is quick & easy, the ferals are back in the Castle grounds four hours later with no ill effects. They are so not bothered by it that I get so frustrated by them going back in the traps & taking food meant for those not yet done. Reference the tom cat's penis, it is covered in tiny spines that face towards his body. Think of a hedgehog with the spines down. When he withdraws the spines are forced upwards to scratch the female vagina, which stimulates ovulation. Vivienne xx

I had an old lady, now no longer with us, that I used to breed (pedigree). After about 8 she didn't come into season again for ages, and I thought she'd just got too old to breed. When she was 10 she started coming into season again, very loudly and very strongly, and she seemed to be 'on' more often than not. Not just the noise, she piddled EVERYWHERE. She didn't eat (too much on her mind LOL) so got really skinny over a few months. Vet said she had developed polycystic ovaries. She was 11 when she was spayed. She recovered amazingly quickly from the op, and lived to be nearly 18. If you don't spay her she could get a pyometra (infection of the uterus) which can be life-threatening. You may also find she has a better temper if she is spayed too.

I haven't read the thread so will appologise now if I am repeating anything, but I have been trying to make the point since I started the feral trapping. All domestic cats should be speyed, they are much happier & do not spray or caterwaul. The vet we are using charges £44:95 but if it is a problem see if there is a PDSA in your area. They may help with the cost. Vivienne xx

Think all three should be speyed - call the vet and ask him which is the kindest thing and that might persuade o.h. as my cats never seemed in pain after the op, just needed a little more tlc and fuss for a while. BB - I think yours need to be done, there are enough spare kittens around and yours might accidentally get out sometime, then where would you be. A cat doesn't need to be pregnant once, before she can be done. You can get help if you can't afford the ops. Have fun! Liz
