Oh bless him, how sad to hear this news. I do hope he makes a good recovery and is soon skipping about again in a three legged way. Will certainly think positive thoughts for Pepper - I love cats. Liz |

All power to his paws Glenys, bless him! I'm sure Pepper will be dashing about again in no time at all and wish him happy hunting once more. It's amazing how well cats can manage on three legs. I've got a 'Grandawg' called Pepper he's a pointer rescued from the streets of Greece six years ago but his English is coming along fine! Cherryxx |

Hiya, last Saturday we found that one of our cats who'd been missing since Friday evening, had been hit by a car and one of his back legs was broken, it now turns out, quite badly. Can I just ask a little favour from you ......... pretty please? He had to have his leg amputated today; I just rang the vets and they said he may be able to come home tomorrow!!! Yesss! But would you mind sending some positive thoughts to our little Pepper, please? It'd be much appreciated. Thank you. xx (I'm going out in a min with daughter to the local Garden Centre, where they also sell cat stuff, to buy him something, so if I don't reply for a while, that's why). |

Hello again Marion, Liz, Anne, Julie, Mags, Lynda and Cherry, thank you all for your replies. We've all been a bit upset about poor Pep, but at least he's alive! Thank you Marion for the website addy; I'll pop over there in a minute. Cherry, what a lovely ending to your Pepper's story; loved it! As you all say, it's amazing how quickly they can adapt to being minus a limb. We can't wait to get him home tomorrow, and soon I'll post a photo on the GC photospage so you can see him. Thank you all again! x |

Thank you Lesley, much appreciated. :-) He's about 7 years of age. He turned up in our back garden in Feb 1999, playing with another of our cats, and it turned out he was desperate for food. We made enquiries around the neighbourhood, and found out that he'd lived in a house down the lane from us up to the week before, whereupon he'd just been left after his previous owners moved house. So he'd been abandoned for a whole week. We took him to the vets, where they aged him at about a year. Poor fella, he had a bad start so that's two of his lives used up! He's very much a lap cat and 'people' cat, but can't miaow properly as it comes out as a sort of whisper unless he's in distress. x |

Awww bless him, but I'm sure you will all pamper him back to health! Alfie and Goldie are very sorry to hear about their friend Pepper and would like to send him lots of licky hugs, plus the following treasure from their bed: Few sprigs of freshly-stolen mint Squashed Pepsi bottle Torn inner from kitchen roll Badly damaged 'TV Quick' magazine (current) Three pieces of snail shell Hope Pepper enjoys these treats, Love Mandy :) xxx |

Poor thing - at least you found him and he's going to be ok now. He'll adapt surprisingly well - I had a Cocker Spaniel who dislocated his hip (knocked down by a car) and had to have his leg strapped to his side for quite a long time - he didn't seem to mind at all. You'll feel better though when you get him home again tomorrow. Kaye x |

Just seen your replies, Patricia and Germaine; thank you! :-) It's encouraging to hear of other 3-legged animals leading normal lives. We'll be giving him plenty of hugs when we see him - gentle ones, of course! He's very cuddly. x |

Hi Glenys, Our cat Bert has only 3 legs-he was run over by a Volvo, 7 years ago. He adapted extremley well and climbs all over the place and I can honestly say it hasn`t affected his quality of life. The only thing to watch out for is weight gain- I battle with all our neighbours NOT to feed him-they feel sorry for him and of course he plays the sympathy card! Diane:) |

Aw Glenys got a special affinity with you and Peps. Your little one will be coping with his disability, only for a short time I think, before he's up and raring to go again. My Grandawg Peps was anorexic for about 4 years after he was rescued, still has his moments! Hubby and I look after him when our son works away 'cos he's traumatised by kennels. We have two cats Neo and Louie and an overweight labrador Solo. Pepper gets on fine with all of them. However having a fat bum labrador I'll never give him any 'bits' but last time Peps was here there was a croissant left over from breakfast and wanting to feed Peps up I gave it to him. What did he do? Tootled out and buried it in the garden! I'll be thinking of you and Pepper, give him a cuddle from me, he's going to be fine but probably more spoilt than ever. These animals give us so much pleasure and pain, bit like the children really, lol! Cherryxx |
