Going back a bit further than that Rex and Rinty - a Western with a boy and an alsation and possibly a horse Renfrew of the Mounties and his sidekick Kelly (or possibly Cally) The Grove Family The Appleyards (had an annoying boy who looked like the Rowntrees fruitgum boy)
