I agree with Paul, I think it was frustration with himself and be honest, dont we all get frustrated when we haven't achieved our best. He may have been caught on camera, the camera should have been on the match not trying to stir trouble for him. He's a very good player and doesn't need spoiling by the media. I hope he scores a double next match.Good Luck to him. I hope Michael Owen isn't as badly injured as first thought. June xx

I couldn't help but laugh, he resembles my grandson, and when he is annoyed he slumps in a chair and folds his arms. we all said how much like our Conner he looked. I bet Rooney was gutted he wasn't able to finish the match, and probably felt bad as he had had such a build up from the media before he played. Shirley Ann.

just got to add my twopenth. passion like that is definateley needed by all the team some last night lacked commitment. carragher for one was well under par. i like to see players playing for the shirt this was showed by wayne, joe cole and steve gerrard. even beckham looked a little out of place. several moments of genuis wont win this world cup we need to perform for 90 minutes not just 10 each half. lets see how we do against equador on sunday and then we can really look at our chances.

It made me smile when the commentator said it was like he'd been called in for his tea........

To be honest when I saw Beckham after about 20 minutes I had actually forgotten he was playing in this match, he wasnt very good last night , in fact if we play like that we have no chance.

i dont think rooney meant it. i blame ronaldo for enflaming things with the ref. I agree with Alan Shearer, i reckon when they go back to training at old trafford rooney should stick one on him!

am I the only one who thinks we played better when he went, maybe they suddenly thought oh we had better pull our socks up now ,no Rooney to rely on. I love Rooney though and dont believe he did it on purpose just has a one track mind about the Football.

My two-pennyworth! Just heard it suggested that if they made Rooney the new England manager it would calm him down by having the responsibility - it worked with Beckham! We lost the Cup the minute owen was sent off - but agree that they played better when down to 10 men! Allie

Though Rooney is passionate, he lacks restraint. Blowing his top at every little thing is not the way to go. I think Gerrard or Jon Terry should be Captain. They both appear to have passion and have their heads screwed on. Re Beckham - doesn't the manager give the captaincy(is that a word? lol) and remove it? Shouldn't it be up to MacLaren to say whether or not Beckham can give it up? Tracy (who hates football lol)

Rooney needs to grow up, his undoubted ability with a football is just not enough............. Barbara..xx
