Chrissie, poor you! regarding soup, I would say that because it's hot it may start some bleeding from site of extraction. you could try really thin soup with a straw and drink from the opposite side. Hope this is some help, but did they not give you any info when you had it done?? love Sue |

It is a while since I had one removed, but whenever you feel up to it is the answer. Just remember you have a gaping hole in your poor gum so a mouthwash is probably a good after you have eaten. |

Thanks very much all. They did give me a leaflet but it didn't mention when I could eat. I haven't got any straws but I suppose I could eat the soup cold :(( Like the sound of grated cheese sandwich though Anne. Did they REALLY give it to you as soon as you woke up??????? |

If it's a cold soup you can have some now ..... Sorry about that!!!! I don't know how long you should wait before drinking or eating anything hot, but be careful 'cos you could start a haemorrhage and you don't want that! Good luck! |

Thanks Peter. I think I have to rinse gently though or I could dislodge the clot. That's the blood clot by the way - not me:) |

Didn't realise you had been to the torture chamber I mean dentist !! Under no circumstances must you rinse your mouth out after an extraction. Your leaflet should tell you that you can hold some warm salt water over the site, but that is all. It should also give you some idea about how long to leave it before eating/drinking. If in doubt, give your surgery a buzz. Unfortunately I know a lot about extractions lol Gummy Maz. XX |

As for Tanned McAnne's experience, if it was anything like my daughters' they stitched the gum after removing her wisdom teeth, so there's not the same risk of causing a haemorrhage. I'd avoid drinking with a straw too, 'cos if you suck too hard it could disturb the clot which is forming. How about yoghurt, ice-cream or whatever you can puree? And yes, it's important to rinse after eating. Oh, you poor thing. It makes me cringe just thinking about it. Take care and good luck. Margaret |

Funny you should mention stitches Margaret. After she had done it she asked me if I usually have stitches. I've never been asked that before. I didn't know dentists could do that. I have got a pot of yoghurt, I may try that thanks:) Yes Maz, you were right first time. It was definitely a torture chamber this visit. Worst time I've ever had at a dentists. As I mentioned, they did give me a leaflet, i.e. don't rinse vigourously for 12 hours, rinse with salt water after 12 hours, don't drink alcohol for 6 hours BUT no mention of food and I'm starving:)) |

Thanks Carol. The numbness, what there was of it, had worn off before I got half way home. I think I shall have to take the plunge, all this talk of food is making me even more hungry:) Chrissie x |

LOL Carol - you've made me think about it now, my tongue will keep straying. Apparently, because I'm on blood pressure tablets I have to have a different injection now. It isn't so powerful. When I had one out at the end of May it never froze at all. Chrissie x |

Owwww Chrissie! What kind of dentist do you have? How did you stay in the chair? You wouldn't have seen me for dust if the injection hadn't worked. You must be a very brave lady! I'm off for my supper now .... May be back later - if I can stay awake. Take care. Margaret |

With great difficulty Margaret. She asked me if I wanted her to stop and when I said carry on she said 'sorry I can't tell what you are saying' LOL. Well it is difficult to speak with a mouthful of tools lol:)) Enjoy your supper. I'm off for mine now, I can't wait any longer. Chrissie x |
