It won't work. Wouldn't it have the opposite effect of what is desired? |

As a parent of four children I would most certainly want to know if there were any sex offenders living near to me, my childrens safety comes first and foremost before any rights the offender may have. Marie |

Just don't apply for a job as a paedeatrician! Get your front door torched.! And of course as the father of two girls and grandfather of another I am protective to my family, and honestly I don't no where the balance lies, 'cos both the public and the police are so stupid! |

Well, I think you'd only be able to know about convicted sex offenders, so Ian Huntley would still have been free to kill Holly & Jessica. The problem with sexual offenders is that often they aren't caught, charges aren't pressed etc and that they don't go around with 'I'm a perv' on their foreheads. To potential victims, they look like ordinary people. Fred West and his wife got away with murdering girls for YEARS. nell |

I think there should be a law that tells us if these people are in our neighbourhood. As a mother of a 9yr old girl it is my responsibility to protect my child. it said in the programme you will always get your hard core pedo's going underground, the one's that plan and pass the children about. These are difficult to identify anyway. But if this law stops 1 child from our streets beng abducted or another befriending a family then I can't see what harm it can do. Have you ever looked at the sites that have these people on. It's frightening how many there are. catherine xx |

Did anyone see the front page of one paper last week ( I think ) two convicted abusers were out for the day from their hostels and they were sat in a park with a camcorder taking footage of young children!! - - - - What kind of society are we living in where this thing is allowed - - - - -If I want to take a photo of my kids at athletic tournaments I have to register with the organisers - - - - -But these abusers were let out for the day with a camcorder!! mind boggles Joanne |

if an adult tells my kids they want to share a 'secret' with them. my kids know that its not good. i have taught my kids that the word 'secret' is bad and if anyone tells them 'its a secret' then they must tell me straight away. my kids are now 27 and 16 and still believe that 'secrets' are bad. as a person that has been damaged by 'secrets', i hate the word. my grandson is being taught the same. it makes me so cross now that schools have introduced a 'secret corner/room' where the kids can go and be on their own. anyone and anything can happen in this place. there is also a childrens programme on tv where the puppets sing about a 'secret house'. great!! my kids would shout from the roof tops if an adult had a 'secret' to share with them. maybe some of you think i'm wrong, but beleive me, these people know how to groom the kids, and haveing a 'secret' is the word that they use to get the kids to do what they want. sorry for being so mad about this but YES we should have sarahs law, and the sooner the better!! xx |

Hi Gillie I agree with what you've said - those are most of my reasons against this, which I think is pretty kneejerk. |

I agree something needs to be done to protect our children from these disgusting people who should not be breathing good air. I think the problem is, if a neighbourhood knew of someone, I'm sure they would want to take the law into their own hands. We simply cannot have anarchy reigning and someone said this kind of action would make them go 'to ground'. I agree and then how are our children protected. Animal lovers have implants put into their dogs etc in the event of them getting lost. I'm sure there is someone out there who is so clever that the 'tag' some early release prisoners wear, could be done as a permanent implant, so that the scumbags would be constantly monitored to see if they break the rules of being anywhere near child facilities. I've always privately advocated castration but how can you do this to someone like the female teacher convicted last week of abusing a 14 year old boy. This is a subject which will probably be inexhaustable (if there's such a word). Dorothy |

Personally I think its a start but I would like to see them In prison for life,No chance of ever coming out! Once a Paedophile always a paedophile!! Children are far more Important than their rights, They lost their rights when they choose their pervertion! |

We are told that paedophiles can never be cured, so what can be done. Some say that these people have rights, but so have we, and our children......the right to live life without being abused.... Time and again criminals are let back onto the streets to re-offend....what can we do but protest.......there is chemical castration, but they must want to take the medication, otherwise its useless.......short answer is, I want them all off the streets. Every year, during the summer holidays, a child is abducted or killed. How many more summers before something is done. |

There are many deserted villages (often MOD land) which are in isolated areas. Put them all in there together and have a child exclusion zone round them, if you cant see your way to keeping them in prison for life. I personally feel that 'therapy' is a waste of time for these men. It is extremely difficult to change someone's basic sexuality (could you, for instance, be turned into a paedophile???) and lets face it, they do this because they LIKE it. For the one in a million who may be able to restrain themselves after intensive therapy, there are the rest who nod their heads solemnly, already planning their next escapade. I do agree that most sexual abuse is perpetrated by someone a child knows and trusts, and that most Offenders are not caught until they have committed, on average, over 100 offences. This means to me that it is only the real hard line offenders who get caught. I dont know whether we have the RIGHT to know who these people are, but we certainly have the RIGHT not to have them living amongst us and our children. OC |

Crime of any kind can never be completely stopped, it's how it's dealt with in society that really matters. While it's true that much sexual crime happens within families, that doesn't mean that the offenders shouldn't face the same penalties that strangers would face. People are rightly outraged at the thought of paedophiles in the community apparently free to commit more crimes, but we're talking about two sides of the same coin - many if not most paedophiles take advantage of the children in their own families so it's not two separate issues at all. Knowing who your child is with isn't always a safeguard either, if it's a family member you don't suspect. In the present climate it's hard not to see everyone and anyone as a potential abuser and to want to keep our children in solitary confinement. It's not just an issue of secrets either - many abusers don't need to mention the word 'secret', they just tell the child that someone they love will be in trouble if they tell what's happening, and the child is instantly caught in a horrible 'catch 22.' It's astoundingly easy for family abusers to get away with this tactic. |

probably the only way forward is for everybody convicted of a child related crime to be locked up for life. That would clean up some of the neighbourhoods. |
