Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 7 Jul 2006 00:46

The thing I miss most is the wonderful smell from the chocolate factory in Norwich. It was a couple of miles from my home but if the wind was in the right direction you could tell what they were making, sometimes Caramac for instance. One of our neighbours used to work there when I was small, so plenty of 'Caley's waste' - probably swept up off the floor but I didn't know and it tasted just as good. It used to be Caleys, then Rowntree Mackintosh, and then Nestle, but was closed down a few years ago and over the past couple of years the factory has gone and a new shopping centre and housing opened up - Chapelfied. Can recall most of those sweets you have mentioned and am now trying to think if I have anything yummy stashed away. Liz

nanna, i only remember jamboree bags from when my nanny used to buy them for us. must have been in about 1965-6. she would come to visit and bring us those.. I didn't see her after january 1967 as we moved away. she passed away in the eary 70's. this is part of one of those childhood memories that stay with you (hopefully always). i'm so glad i could remember the name.

Frys seem to have made a lot of good chocoalte bars, I liked the five boys one Linda mentions as well Gillian, yes I am sure they had numbers on the wrappers, and I am sure you could only ever get them loose ;-))

Anne Report 6 Jul 2006 15:00

During the war (yes I am ancient) my Mum made us some sherbert. It was lovely, fizzed. Being a nosey child, I watched her, so a few days later made some more - Andrews Liver salts mixed with suger. Sadly, I got the ratio wromg, and my litle bruv got the 'trots' Well, these things were rationed, so anything was a 'treat' Anne

I loved liquorice wood - looked like bits of old twig and you just chewed on it to get the flavour out then threw it away when all the flavour had gone. Stella
