I was confirmed, but being Church of Wales , we are not given a name when we are confirmed., except the name you were given when you were baptised. I still love going to church.

I think that when i was young!!(52 and feeling82!!) the school drumed it into you. My parents where not practising Cathlics but at least i was baptised. I was a bit of a wild child and i think they thought a bit of religous displine would go a long way. NAH!!!!!! I was still a wild child when i left school, but has the years have past i seem to have mellowed. Maybe it has something to do with having children of my own. I have not had them baptised or confirmed because i decided to let them think for themselves. I believe, i have told my children that i believe. The choice is theirs. Vanessa

I was confirmed way-back-when but was C of E so didn't have a different name. I was the first person confirmed in a brand new Church though! Chris

What exactly does being confirmed mean please? Stella

Anne

Anne Report 9 Jul 2006 20:49

I wasn't baptised/christened as a baby. but baptised by immersion when I was old enough to decide I wanted to be a Christian. Anne

East Point Report 9 Jul 2006 20:54

Same as you Ann - I was baptised in the Baptist Church when I was 15 - my own decision and that I believe is how it should be, after all, a baby cannot decide for itself whether to be baptised or not. Stella

Dee the Bibliomaniac Report 9 Jul 2006 20:57

Hi Stella I have had a look in the prayer book and it says The Order of Confirmation or laying on of hands upon those that are baptised and come to years of discretion That is a C of E prayer book by the way As I put in my earlier posting I felt that as I had been christened, and my god parents had made vows on my behalf, I should take them on myself, so was confirmed Once a person is confirmed they can take Holy Communion at a C of E church I must stress this is only what I understand by confirmation. From what I understand things are possibly different in the Catholic Faith Dee ;-))

East Point Report 9 Jul 2006 20:59

Thanks for the explanation Dee. It is the same in the Baptist Church. You can only take communion once you have been baptised by total immersion as I was. Stella

Hi Stella I tend to agree with your comments about baptising babies, my son wasn't. Sadly it caused problems, my parents disapproved, Dee ;-))

East Point Report 9 Jul 2006 21:06

Just do what I did Dee when I didn't have my son christened and tell them it can be a decision he makes for himself when he is older.
