Im sure your son must be a fit young man and this injury will heal well for him. The painkillers would have made him muddled, he will be fine once he gets lower doses when the leg is healing. (But my god, it must have been agony for him). In a way being a mounted policeman will be in his favour - he doesnt have to walk a beat so his leg will have plenty of time to heal. He can use a step for mounting until the docs say its fully healed. I dare say he will be off work for some months though, which may bore him to death. I guess the police will find some sort of office job in the meantime til he gets the all clear. I do wish him all the best in the world - and to you and his family. He sounds alovely boy worrying about letting his mum down at a time like that.

Oh Linda, your cooking isn't that bad is it? lol Seriously, I do hope your son's injuries heal well and he is soon back in the saddle. He was lucky to have good surgeons work on him and with lots of positive thoughts and determination I am sure he will be right as rain in a while. There are herbal things you can get for bone repair, I think comfrey is one, known as knitbone. Here is what it says in my homeopathy book: When the pain from the broken bone is agonizing from the slightest movement, use Bryonia. After the broken parts of the bone have been repositioned chose Symphytum. Take this in pill form daily for a month to help the bone parts knit together. (This remedy comes from the herb comfrey, also called boneset.) When the the initial healing is completed after about one month, choose Calcarea.phosphorica. Take this in pill form till you feel fully recovered. I always think these remedies are worth a try and you can ask the supplier for information before you buy. There may be someone on the board who can advise further. I am sure the doctors will see that there is not a problem taking these things to help heal the break. Wish him luck and hope he is feeling better soon, you might need to get something for yourself too, for the shock and worry. We never stop fretting over our kids do we, however old they are! Liz

Im sure a lot of the old remedies would help - people broke bones then without the medicines we have now and they still healed well. Best make sure the herbal ones dont conflict with the modern ones he takes though. When I had an operation a few years back, someone advised I took arnica for a few weeks before hand. I bruise very badly and often that is more painful than the incision. After the op, I honestly had hardly any bruising at all. In fact there were just two marks either side of the incision and you could actually see these were the surgeons finger prints! If the bruising was that little on the outside, it must have been just as good inside. Yes, the old stuff often works

Thinking of your son, and am so sorry to hear of his nasty accident. The young and fit heal well, as someone has already said, but how upsetting for you - we mums suffer just as much as our young 'uns or even more, I think. Best wishes to him for the soonest possible recovery. Joyx

Thanks for all your messages a P.M's. They made me cry, you are a lovely lot. They have taken the plaster off now as there was a lot of swelling and they thought there might be nerve damage. They are a bit happier now the plaster is off. Had a terrible visit yesterday as he suddenly was in excruciating pain and kept saying his morphine pump wasn't working. We had two nurses and one Registrar look at. She said 'Now how does this thing work?'!!!!!! He was literally screaming and another nurse came and he kept asking what was happening and she wouldn''t really answer him. He shouted 'Please get someone who can talk to me' She went off upset and in got chinese whispered back through two others as 'Get me someone who can speak English' Which even the people in the ward said was NOT said. Down came the woman in charge of the hospital, she had been called in case their had been a case a racial harrassment, and came round to see us with the nurse. Once that was all sorted out with poor son still in agony. She looked at all his medication and agreed that something wasn't right. Then LO AND BEHOLD HALLELUJAH she saw that although the morphine pump was working, where the needle went into his arm was bent so the dose wasn't actually going into him. I am so upset. It took a case of him shouting at a nurse to get something done. I'm really glad he did it now as at least something got found out. His morphine pump ran out at 4 this morning so Alison, his partner, rang them up, as the man in the next bed said Richards alarm was going off for 15 minutes the night before until someone came to change it. Scary isn't it. Linda

Oh dear, sounds like its not comfortable for him in the hospital at the moment, how awful. Terrible that they rush to get the racial harrassment manager and not the highest doctor they could to get the pump sorted. Shows what a policitically correct world we live in now. Sounds like the staff are terribly over-stretched. Does he have the funds to pay for a private room at the hospital where the staffing levels would be better? It can work out quite expensive particularly as he may be in for a while whilst they sort the bone out but it would get him off that ward. Is that the local hospital or is there another one he can transfer to? let's just hope that that is just one shift and that the other staff are better than that. Take care and good luck with everything. Claire
