Hi, my hubby takes 2 x 25mg of amitriptyline everynight for chronic pain, he usually wakes up very groggy, he also takes tramadol and codipar so maybe with all three thats why hes groggy! Marie: ) |

Hi Marie Blimey - his dose makes mine look a bit sad!! Maybe I won't feel so out of it then, if I'm not taking so much - OH says he probably won't notice cos I don't make sense at the best of times. S x |

Sharon, I have been on Amitriptyline for 3yrs--and you have to take it a good 2wks before any real reaction[from a patients point of view]. i use it for nerve pain. Yes it does make you feel very groggy[not good if you are looking after children] Yes it does make you weight gain [ to much] helenx |

Hi Sharon, I took a 10mg tablet once for my shoulder pain and to be honest I was out for the count till lunch time, I just put it down to not being used to them but with having four kids and a disabled hubby I couldnt afford to be asleep all day! My hubby was like a zombie at first but his body must have got used to all the medication as he isnt too bad now. Didnt know about the weight gain thing though, maybe thats why he is heavier than he was and I thought he just ate more cos he is at home all day. Marie: ) |

Double poo!!! I can see me not being able to stick them if I'm feeling groggy, and here's me thinking that there was an end in sight to my problem. S x |

Helen, GP said it was standard prescription for my kind of headache, because they don't respond to painkillers. Something to do with relaxing muscles and nerve endings, but am now wondering whether I'd be better putting up with them. I'm not back at work for another couple of weeks, so I suppose I'll have to see how I go, but the thought of having to go without my ' medicinal ' glass of wine in the evening after a day at work is depressing to say the least. Something just occured to me..... Maybe if I forget the tabs, and just give up the alcohol, the headaches might disappear anyway...... think I'll stick with the wine! S x |

It was recently suggested I had a go at them, all part of the process of finding a replacement fot Co-proxamol! Have to say having heard of the side effects I've decided to try something else for a while. People I know who have used them have a mixed experience, for some it works like a dream, others not! I know absolutely nothing about the tablets you are talking about, but I do have a lot of neck and back problems which I see a Chiropractor for - have you considered trying one? You would probably have to go private (I pay £30 a session), but it could help a lot - my attitude is that you can't put a price on your health. It's just a suggestion - something worth considering maybe. Kaye x |

Thanks Sue and Kaye I've only just started looking into the problem myself, and after the responses on here today, an alternative is becoming more appealing by the minute. S x |

Hi Caz You can't beat a good glass ( bottle ) of plonk can you?? I'm not knocking anti depressants, I have been on them before for post natal depression, and they did me the world of good. It's just that I'm not 100% happy about them for this problem. S x |

It may help if you have some treatment for the tension in the muscles - that would reduce pain. I would recommend Cranial Osteopathy from experience but possibly any osteopath or even a deep massage may help. Monica |

Sharon, This may sound daft, but do you use artificial sweeteners - in tea, coffee ... or in lo-cal fizzy drinks? I gave 'em up a couple of years back and, guess what, no more headaches ... pretty much instant effect. Worth a try if you do .... Annie |
