I have a barber so will have no problem getting my hair cut. I have many farmers and Grocers so shouldn't go short on food. I have a Baker and Confectioner so shouldn't go short on nice food. I have Tailors so should have something suitable to ware for most occasions, especially if I have to see the BIG BOSS.

I will swap you a hair cut for a couple of beers. Is that ok? It would also be nice to have a hot bath so get that boiler fired up. John

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 12 Sep 2006 07:00

Grandfather was a shipwright, - not sure whether we'd need ships but I'm sure his skills would be useful. My blacksmiths might be handy for mending items . My bricklayer would have a job if someone could supply the materials. Just in case the place gets too crowded and there's a water shortage, I'll ask for the help of one of my several Artesian well borers to find an alternative supply. Aunty Jessie would be pleased to help out the baker, already there ( she made excellent brandy snaps) and her brother was a caterer so he'd be useful too. My ag. labs were a hard working crowd so I'm sure they'd help out as well. Gwyn

Mine were farmers and landowners, so I will eat well. The rest after the mid 1800's were photographers and military types. Teresa

jump Report 12 Sep 2006 07:26

There wouldn't be any use for military types up there but they are most welcome to help out on the farm or in the bakery. It would be nice to hang a few photos around the house when it's built. Maybe the blacksmith could provide the hanging nails. John

Ag labs, dairymen and fishermen, so no worries with food. Publicans - always useful! Domestic servants, so housework taken care of. Artists and picture framers, so good in the cultural department.

Claire I've got a mole catcher, who could help your chap ! Gwyn

jump Report 12 Sep 2006 07:52

Sorry Claire, no mole catchers allowed up there. No harm is to come to any creature, big or small. Your mole catcher will have to work in the bakery and the moles can help the miners dig the tunnels. Sorry Gwyn, same applies to your mole catcher. John

Not sure you would want a fire up there either, that is more like the other place!!!!

jump Report 12 Sep 2006 09:08

That's true..... HA HA!! If we do want some fire we can always ask. Is anybody likely to be going in that direction? It's probably best to get your contacts sorted beforehand, you never know when they might be useful.

I think mine would be more use in the other place as I have lots of coalminers, coal hewers, coal weighers and coal dealers. A few blacksmiths and assorted pub landlords, wine dealers and mallsters and brewers. I also have a couple of missionaries but not sure if they are still needed. I also have some doctors and teachers and a few farmers. My great grandfather was a bootmaker and his father a cordwainer so I can help out with shoes.

Germaine

Germaine Report 12 Sep 2006 09:18

Most of mine were fishermen but I have some millers in there too so we should be well in up there with our bread and fishes. Will have clean windows too if they have any my Grandfather ( the one who can't be found was a window cleaner) I have so many questions to ask. Talking of that I know a lovely song/hymn written by a man from here will go and see if I can find it. Germaine x As I was a' walking one morning in spring, I met with some travellers, on an old country lane. The first was an old man, the second a maid The third was a young boy, who smiled as he said: With the wind in the willows, and the birds in the sky There's a bright sun to warm us wherever we lie We have bread and fishes and a jug of red wine, To share on our journey, with all of mankind. So I sat down beside them, with the gay flowers around, And we ate from a mantle, spread out on the ground They told me of peoples and prophets and kings And all of the one God who knew everything CHO: I asked them to tell me their name and their race, So I would remember their kindness and grace My name it is Joseph, this is Mary my wife And this is our young son, who is our delight We are travelling to Glaston, through England's green lanes To hear of man's troubles, to hear of man's pains We've travelled the wide world by land and by sea To tell all the people, how they can be free CHO: So sadly I left them in a cold country lane, I know that I never shall see them again The first was an old man, the second a maid The third was a young boy, who smiled as he said: CHO:

Okay, So, Annie has some contacts in the Other place. Jules, you never know when a Paperbag may come in useful. Especially if you have to do a lot of shopping at the bakers. Any more barbers? we can start a barber's quartet. Germaine, Do you have a harp to go with that lovely voice?

A nice picturesque thatched country holiday cottage would be wonderful if you could arrange that Iris.
