Ok - I'm planning ahead for Christmas, which is one of the few times I dress up and go out. I've sent for a bustier from the N Directory. It's black with white embroidered flowers on it, and is really pretty. But, at 36, am I too old to wear it?? I'm slim ( ish ) and can fit in the size 10, but when do you start to be mutton dressed as lamb?? Help please. Sharon xx

You certainly don't start to be mutton at 36...lol Ooh to be that young again. Go for it!. Gwyn

Sharon...... If it looks good when you try it on and your comfortable in it - then wear it. I'm 36 and if I was a size 10 ( which unfortuanatly I'm not ) I'd wear it - it sounds very pretty. I think it all depends on what you're planning to wear with it....... A skirt the size of a hairband is maybe not the way to go.....lol Esta x

Im only a couple of years older than you and ive looked at said bustier - and it does go into bigger sizes and it suits me so i say go for it girl - esp if it makes you feel good.

Thanks Gwyn. Esta, with my legs I haven't worn a short skirt since I was about 7. lol. Was just going to wear it with the old faithful - black trousers. I'm at the stage where I don't know what to buy or what suits me. Think I fell in the trap of spending all my time, money, and energy on my children, and along the way, I got lost somewhere. Thanks Strump and Mary - I'm getting braver by the second!! I would ask OH for his opinion, but unless I shaved my head, and went out in a bin bag, he probably wouldn't even notice. S xx

Not sure what you're worried about, 36 is definitely not old (although when you;re 36 you think it is). Its only when you get considerably older than that, that you realise you were just a spring chicken.

Jenny I don't feel old - well not every day anyway, but I do feel at an inbetween age. Too old to be trendy, and too young for twin sets and elasticated crimplene trousers. No offence to anyone who wears those things - lol Sharon xx

Sharon I had to laugh. I've got an O.H. like yours,- notices nothing. The top with black trousers sounds great. As you are so slim, I think that will look very smart. Gwyn

Watch what you say about elasticated waist crimplene trousers - you could upset me - no not really cotton cropped ones on today - but elasticated waist - pmsl Mary in Spain

What I was really trying to say was, make the most of this age and wear what you like (possibly not micro minis! - but other than that). Reason being that you do get to an age where its a real struggle to shop. The places where you can get clothes that you don't look ridiculous in seems to narrow down to BHS, M & S, Matalan and Peacocks with the odd catalogue thrown in - and thats before you look at the drawbacks of your figure - thats an whole new thread!!

Computer Blonde Report 28 Sep 2006 14:45

Thanks again Gwyn. x Mary, no offence meant!! I take it back - the elasticated waist should be made compulsory for women over the age of 18 - at least then no one would be showing their muffin tops. lol Jenny, You're depressing me now! lol I already shop in those places! S xx

No offence taken - but one question - what is a waist - must have been at the end of the queue when they were dished out!!! Oh well I am cuddly plenty to hang on to - if you see what I mean. Mary in Spain

I do see what you mean Mary, and I think waists are vastly over rated. S xx
