How about a weekday meet in Bristol in the New Year?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 4 Dec 2006 09:41

I have no idea where though, but I can just about get there and back on the train. There's lots of you who live around there I'd like to meet but I work Saturdays and can't do weekend meets. Gwynne

Ooooooh! I was supposed to have been organising another Bristol Meet at some point months ago but the pub we used (very successfully I might add ) last time has been refurbished and not really suited to a meet now - it was sooo convenient for the station too I'll certainly be up for organising a lunch perhaps in the city centre come the New Year ????? That would mean those travelling by train could use Temple Meads instead of Parkway as before. Not sure how many people would be available during the week - but worth a try! Give me a reminder after Christmas! Mags xx

city centre not so good for those of us who travel in by car! Any idea about how efficient the park and ride is (hopefully not crowded if it is not Christmas.) Whata pity about the pub, it was really convenient for rail and road. Ann Glos

I'll take that on board, Ann, good point! I will try and find out about park and ride - not something we've ever used. Thinking about it - perhaps the city centre might not be such a good idea with all the redevopment that's going on - be great once it's finished! The Parkway would still probably be an option if we were to hire the function room - but that would depend on how many people there were. The pub itself is now more focused on the serving of meals - which is ok but they may not want the tables occupied as long as we might want to occupy them! - And there's nothing else to do round there if it were just for a lunch. At least there's the option of shopping or a wander round the harbourside for those that would like to if we decided on the centre - although the train from Parkway to Temple Meads is always an option too! I think this was one of the reasons a meet never got off the ground before LOL I used to be indecisive but I'm not sure what I am now! I feel another visit to The Parkway coming on - just to suss it out again. LOL Mags xxx

Mags, Don't get in a tizz and hire rooms and stuff - a pub with lots of room, food and in walking distance from the station will do me. Gwynne

Mags

Mags Report 4 Dec 2006 16:23

Aha - TWO stations! LOL It'll get sorted - no worries. No tizz - I am sooo laid back I am horizontal! I will check out The Parkway again though - cos you can practically spit on it from the station (not literally, you understand LOL) Pub grub, nothing flash but very convenient. A lunchtime during the week wouldn't be that busy that we couldn't stay on, I wouldn't have thought. Leave it with me - Supermags in on the case LOL Mags xx

Sounds good to me. I'd like to meet you Gwynne, I remember we were of the same mind on several posts. Also Ann who had such an awful time on Saturday. . I use the Brislington Park & Ride when going to Bristol, It goes to Broadmead, is that functioning now after its refurbishment? Pat

Mags

Mags Report 4 Dec 2006 19:18

~waves to Pat~ Broadmead itself is ok but one or two of the shops along The Horsefair are closed and the redevelopment and building of the huge shopping cum everything centre is still ongoing. Will have a think. Mags xx

It would be good to meet you as well, Pat. As long as I get off at the right station .................. Gwynne

Mags Report 4 Dec 2006 19:22

St. Bernards on standby for lost Gwynnes! LOL You won't get lost Gwynne - no matter which station you have to get off at - it's dead easy. Some trains 'pause' at Templemeads before going on to Parkway - so if the worse comes to the worst -you hop back on again quick!! LOL Mags xx
