I do believe there is an afterlife however as just the other day - there was some remark made on radio about St. Peter's gates and as I said to my husband if I arrived there and saw my ex and or my mother I was off. I have to admit to you all seriously - it does bother me as they were two people who between them made my life here whilst I lived with them a hell on earth and I never ever wish to clap eyes on them again anywhere. |

Sorry Carol - but I don't agree with your comment saying God doesn't believe in aethiests. Even if you don't believe - you still get there......and that means you too Monty (hee hee)!!!! Monty when you get there, you'll look back and think, Yeah - She was right!!! Now I have never been religious or had any form of religious background, so how can you explain that? I had my first 'out of body' when I was just 8 or 9, so there's me at that age - on the ceiling looking down at myself, I also saw my Nan at the other side, who had died some time before, how can a child of 8 or 9 even begin to imagine about those things? I have had other experiences now as an adult and I must admit some do scare me, because it's unexplainable where it all comes from. Happy reading anyway everyone, I find it really fascinating. Much better than talking about the weather!!! Stella X |

We don't ' top' ourselves to get back there because 1) I have two children who need me 2) We haven't yet finished our ' journey' or 'learning' of our lives 3) It isn't our time to go yet ~ I believe our time to go is already 'stamped' on all of us. Yes ~ it is the most calmest, serene, warmest, brightest place I have ever seen, not God at the other side but my Nan. I never know when you are joking Monty, saying you have had out of body experiences!!! Not being funny now ~ but I really don't care what people think of me anyway, I have been given what I have been given, and I'd rather be me, than try to be someone that I'm not. Just because someone says ' that's not right' , or ' you're weird ', well, T*ts to them ~ I really couldn't give a monkeys chuff!!!! Stella X |

When I was 17 I overdosed on a mixture of drink and drugs, partially by choice. I felt that something or some one sent me back as it wasn't time to leave others behind, I didn't want to but return I did. According to the hospital I was a gonna they never expected me to pull thro and had started the trace for my parents. I was not religous before and I am not now but I always believed in the para normal and I do believe in the after life. Jac |

I find this all very interesting. My mother is a Catholic - as I am but I do not go to church - and her faith means so much to her and keeps her going. Her grandson was killed in a motorbike accident 4 years this year - my mom at 80 was so composed and just laid her hand on top of the coffin. I personally think to have faith like that is such a comfort and can make life easier to live without your loved ones around you because my mom knows she will meet them all when her time comes. But and in my mind this is true you cannot argue over politics or religion - not that this thread is argumentative - but we all have our own views and it is good to air them every now and then. And as Dave Allen used to say 'May your God go with you¡' Mary in Spain xx |

HI Stella Interesting thread, what suddenly made you put it on here? Monty is probably speaking for as many disbelievers as believers and maybe he is as offended by your theory as you may be by his. Anyway, personally, I believe there is someone out there looking after me, I don't know why, I don't feel I particularly deserve it, I could have been a much better person in my life but maybe that's something I have learnt with age. I still make mistakes that I am wise enough to not make, I guess it's this not being perfect business, which is a good excuse to thinnk you can get away with things. It would take too long to give you examples of why I believe but on saying that I don't go to Church and I am not overly religious, with no specific religion, though technically I am C of E. We all have our own thoughts and beliefs, sometimes that is why fanatics get too carried away but we should have an open mind and respect for others, as the saying goes 'Cut me and I bleed' red blood as well so basically we are all the same Love to all, let's not fall out over this Janet |

Yes,I do believe In an after life. I have my own personal beliefs,my beliefs are that we keep being reborn until we reach a perfect spiritual state, then we go on to a higher spiritual plain. Monty, why do you have such disrespect for others beliefs,?have your opinion by all means but keep the respect in it!! |

I think the problem here is the word belief. Many of us have a belief in something (even if it is an atheist belief) and as soon as anyone thinks they have the right idea about how something is, then automatically other beliefs must be wrong. It then becomes hard to respect an idea which you can't in all honesty understand how someone else has reached. I always find it very difficult to accept that anyone has all the answers, especially when so many factions with such contradictory ideas all think they are right. As I have got older I have become more disenchanted with organised religions of all persuasions and less inclined to believe dogmas usually worked out centuries ago by committees of clerics. I personally believe there is probably an afterlife and I am pretty certain that there is a supreme being. I have felt deeply spiritual moments at times. These help me understand a bit about why we are here..........but I also believe that evolution is the most plausible explanation of how the process works. Sue |

Consider this: All living creatures contain a vast amount of electrical energy - what happens to that when we die? Where does it go? Does energy just 'disappear'? Could this electrical energy be what is called our 'soul'? Energy can't just 'disappear' it has to go somewhere. Think of the energy in an elastic band, you pull it and it 'pings', the band flies across the room. That is the kinetic energy in the band being released. We have much more energy than that, yet we can't fly across the room like an elastic band!!! So this vast energy repository called the human body - can the carcas die and the energy not form anything?? maggie ( I need my bed now LOL) |

I am sure there is something more than this life and having had a very obscure message that only I knew about from my late mother, at a spiritualist church, I feel certain we will all meet our loved ones again. Jackie, I feel quite comforted that your mum has helped look after the babies gone before, my daughter was only tiny and lived for just three days, and I like to think of someone mothering her there, altho I have just been to the cemetery yesterday to put flowers on her grave for her 33rd anniversary of her birth, so it might not have been your mum on that particular job. I think often people mock because they do not understand or are apprehensive - we can all believe whatever we want to and don't need to fall out over it. Liz |

It's interesting to hear everyone's thoughts and views on this subject but does anyone agree that, whatever we all think, there is actually only one Truth ? Personally I think this has to be the case - it's too important an issue not to be. |

Of course there is only one truth, but what isit?? Thats what belief is,what you personally believe, none of us will know until we finaly leave this mortal realm, until then all we have is our own beliefs. either we will be saying'I knew there was more' or we will just be blood, flesh and bones, and rot in the ground. I hope my beliefs are 'true' :-)) |
