I have to agree with David. Charlotte Church is 21, financially stable and is currently in a relationship with the baby's father. The only difference to them not been married is that the solicitors will not get a load of money if they split up. Joan pmsl

I thought that was old fashioned now Bob......my first granddaughter was born and is 4 months in their wedding photos....and my daughter's baby will be 4 months old when she gets married in December......both babies were planned, and they are very happy about it.....as am I..... Strangely enough, my son who got married in August, and his wife have been trying for a family since then, and have had no luck.....

Love and commitment is surely just as good as a bit of paper? A bit of paper can be torn as can any marriage vows.........

Interesting...the expression 'up the duff' derived from plum duff or boiled pudding.....doen't sound too attractive for what is mostly a joyous experience. Can't see how any of that twaddle matters in this day and age. On the whole, I believe my son is delighted he was born on the 'wrong side of the blanket'. lol BC

Nothing changes. Just found a marriage for one of my relatives in 1891 2 years after the birth of their first son and while she was 7 months pregnant with the second. I really don't think it matters a toss whether the couple are married or not as long as they want and love the child. Jean x.

Have to say, glad I was married first, I may be old fashioned but perhaps it's the whole ideas of what's hip and what's not that have made this world what it is today. Yes stuff has been going on for all time and sometimes maybe not for the better but on the whole I think people need stability and construction in their lives. That does not mean to say that I would not support my children if they needed help ie as in pregnancy. I don't condemn anyone either ie as in religion. I try to keep an open mind on most things but when I think back to life in my school days, things were safer somehow janet

If 2 people are committed to each other enough to plan a child, why are they not committed enough to get married - what is wrong in getting married?

Angela now in Wilts (not North Devon) Report 1 Mar 2007 18:15

I think that, if a couple are in a stable relationship, then ok, although marriage is preferable. What I do object to is that all the tv progs these days seem to advocate that casual 'relationships' (for want of a better word) are the norm. Am I really that old-fashioned to think that an immediate physical relationship is not right? Angela
