Without a doubt I would demand the death sentence. I can see no useful purpose in the state sustaining killers for a life sentence. Jacqui

I'm sure you all know my feelings on this subject. The return of Corporal and Capital punishment. Hanging, definately.

Yes........ but what about the miscarriages of justice, the ones now cleared by forensic techniques not known at the time? It is a bit late to say 'Sorry you were innocent after all' when you have hung someone! Steven Kishko springs to mind....de he not do 20 years for a murder he didn't commit....imagine if he had been your son? That is not to say that if anyone killed someone of mine I would not go after them , I would but not until I was sure I had the right person. I would want to kill them or would I? Death does not seem a punishment to me (unless you believe in an actual hell). Would not vote to bring back the death penalty, though I can understand why people feel so strongly. Rosexx

death sentence for deliberate murder or messing about with kids but i think every killer should take a lie detector test before they are executed just to make sure because things are not always what it seems

Ginny

Ginny Report 19 Mar 2007 21:32

Look at the tragic case involving Sally Clarke. In the past she would have undoubtedly got the death penalty for double infanticide......... Angela Canning Timothy Evans - hung Derek Bentley - hung Stephen Downing To name but a few - All subsequently proved to be innocent.

Ginny see your point, Does anyoe know what happened to Sally Clarke? Caz xxx

Jac

Jac Report 19 Mar 2007 21:35

As I understand it the case of Sally Clarke hinged on the evidence put forward by a so called expert who was later discredited. I would not advocate the death sentence on the say so of one supposedly expert's opinion - surely our legal system should be able to cope with determining the guilt or innocence of an individual without recourse to merely the statement of a so called expert? Jacqui

Kay????

Kay???? Report 19 Mar 2007 21:42

Sally died of a suspected massive heart attack......while alone in her home,,,as stated by a family member,,,she was an alcoholic,,,her husband was away on buisness and her son with relatives,,,,,,,,,she suffered deep depression after her release and was unable to cope,as stated by her father-in-law,,,

Jac

Jac Report 19 Mar 2007 21:43

Regrettably Ginny you are correct about the examples you state, however we have come a long way further with forensic evidence etc and I believe that if it can be proven, without doubt, that a person is guilty of murder then that person should receive the death penalty. Jacqui

I realise to keep murderers alive is a drain on an overstretched system but I could never vote for a return of the death penalty. Life should, however, mean life.
