I feel ok even the stumps don't hurt much, a bit sore on the ends, it's the phantom pains that hurt, boy do they hurt. |

McB, many years ago my dad lost the same fingers in an accident with his circular saw. When he came home from hospital, he found it helped to wash the dishes! The warm water and moving his hands in it seemed to help, so you can now be the chief washer-up. If you have a dishwasher, forget using it. It is now obsolete. |

McB,. you are in a difficult position with being self employed. I hope your stumps heal well and the pain eases. It will be good if you can manage to get back to working soon altho it will take a bit of getting used to, I expect. It's disgraceful that there's no follow up help, hope the washing up tip helps when you are able to do it. |

Reading through the thread and wondering how things are with you today McB? Hope that everything is healing and the pains are less for you. Take care now. |

McB I hope you will continue to improve and that you are still receiving the necessary aftercare. Don't try to get back to work too soon, I understand the financial implications, but you need to make sure you have properly healed physically and mentally. |

Been back to hosp this afternoon, waited hours, bandages off & been allowed to run them under a tap, you've no idea how good that felt, still cant return to work till the stitches have all gone & swellings down, stumps are not to bad to touch but the phantom pain hurts like **** |

My first OH worked woodwork machines and lost the end digit of his right index finger and badly cut his thumb on a wood planer. In a later accident he damaged another finger. He still managed to write ok and do his job, but wore leather finger stalls (from the chemist) to protect the stumps at first and keep things clean. Otherwise it never really affected him and he managed to do the drawings and build replicas of a few horsedrawn carriages as well as renovate an old house in addition to his job. What he did notice was that the circulation could be poor on very cold days. |

I hope that you are feeling a little better McB and you are now coming to terms with such an horrific accident. I really hope the phantom pains will calm down for you before too long. |

Now that the dressings are off my stumps have really swollen, had to go back to hosp this morning to get them checked out, they think the dressings were stopping the swelling & now there open to the elements there doing what comes naturally, very little phantom pain now just real pain & LOTS of it. |

Ouch, I can imagine how much that would hurt. Do take things steady and look after yourself. |

Yes Liz, I'm about 8-9 miles or 15 minuets from the hosp but on the day of the accident that journey seemed to take forever. |
