don't be scared Dizzi - you are brave and you've done the right thing - she was not doing her job properly - not as a nurse and certainly not as a human being |

but will they support her? if they do, this smacks of institutionalised bad practice and you should see if you can get hold of an advocate to fight your corner |

How ridiculous - Although the 'back' reason might be valid, hospitals have all sorts of equipment to help them lift patients. :-| |

Dizzi your care and others on the ward are priority and it should be that patients are made as comfortable as possible. Do not be scared hun, share your thoughts and worries with other staff, and tell them how you feel..... |

Dizzi sorry to hear whats gone on in the night. She should have got another nurse to help her move you. While you are in hospital make notes of everything that happens to you, Date, Time, Name, Event & who said what, you could e-mail it to yourself. Then when you are out of Hospital write a report/complaint to the hospital about everything you feel needs strongly addressing. |

Was it a formal complaint you have lodged, Dizzi. I just have a feeling that health and safety rules for staff may have been the reason she refused to help. I know back problems from lifting or preventing falls is a major cause of early retirement/incapacity for nurses and care workers and rules for them are now incredibly strict - and enforced. |

John, undoubtedly H & S - but as has been said, she should have got another nurse, not refused to help. |

And also I note she remarked that twice a night disturbs other patients. I assume that you would need the loo more at night as well as in the day because of whatever they are doing to get rid of the fluid on your legs etc. Make sure you note that remark down it seems very unprofessional to me. And don't be scared, or if you are, don't let her see that you are. Be polite, as I am sure you always are, but firm with your requests. <3 |

Dizzi my God Daughters daughter N was in hospital for suspected appendicitis . I will not go into the dreadful treatment in detail (or should I say lack of treatment) she received. She was discharged two days after surgery with no discharge letter, medication or guidance on after care, when God Daughter asked nurse about painkillers she was told to give her a couple of over the counter pain killers. N had to have emergency admittance a day later, and further surgery. The nurses with the exception of one were unhelpful and gave conflicting advice, one saying do one thing, another saying do something else. Cutting an extremely long and distressing story short, my God Daughter who incidentally is a strong supporter of the NHS was so worried as N was deteriorating before their eyes, she complained to the senior nurse on duty, who said she would speak to the team about to take over. Nothing happened, by this time N was becoming very poorly. My God Daughter, was so angry at the lack of concern she asked to speak to the person in charge of N treatment, things moved on a pace and the hospital manager came within a very short time. He then took over and N was given the care and the necessary treatment which included further surgery. Happily she is back home and making a steady recovery. My God Daughter has written to the hospital manager detailing all of the events, this only happened recently, so things are still not resolved. |

DIZZI - that kind of treatment is just not acceptable, patients deserve better treatment than that, if I was in your shoes I would ask to speak to someone from PALS (Patient and Advice Liaison Service) <3 |

Dizzi, if she could not have got hold of another nurse quickly enough, she could have slipped a pan under you or used a portable hoist. |

Don't be put off by her seeming to be popular - sometimes people who work with bullies have to be 'extra nice' to them to keep them at bay!!! |
