See sticky.

Any thoughts?

A welcome addition or just new battlegrounds?

GinN Report 13 Aug 2013 17:09

A Military one, eh! Will we get to meet men in uniform? :-D

I think the hobby and interests board is a good idea, those threads seem to stay trouble free and will stop cluttering the gen chat board.

Military board I am not sure. It could be good but as I don't go on the find ancestors etc much not sure how much military interest there is.

But at least they are doing something as a result of the sticky. :-)

Classic stitches then.

My first thought on Military was discipline for any wums and trolls, a bit of frog marching in place of the norty step maybe :-D

I like the idea of a hobbies and interests board and wonder what form it will take.
Will it be set out as subjects decided by GR or will we be able to put up our own niche interests? I'm looking forward to this one as hobby threads tend to get lost on general chat.

What was your thinking behind that link Rollo?

I doubt they will be providing a mail order service for magazines.

George

George Report 13 Aug 2013 17:53

I also think the new boards could be a good idea, BUT, we are talking about GR here, they are constantly having problems with what they have at the moment.

It would be much better if they were to get all the problems sorted out first before attempting to ad more.... :-S :-S :-S :-S :-S

George :-)

I think they should have a loony board. Keep 'em away from the rest of us.

The owner of GRU / Brightsold is D C Thompson famous for such publications such as the Beano and People's Friend. Over the years they have also published several hobbies and handicraft mags of which Practical Stitches is the last survivor. DC Thompson is also into quizzes and such. LIke most companies DC Thompson like to see that their subsidiaries reflect the interests of HQ..

Next year the media industry on and off offline is expecting a 4 year jamboree as the 100th anniv. of the 1st World War rolls around. The tourist industry too who are block booking all over Picardy. The ferries no doubt will do what they do best and put up fares some more. Anyway now you know why they are starting a military thread - instead of "helpers" pilfering Ancestry and so on they can pilfer the Long Long Trail instead.

After a very long time I eventually managed to get GRu to stop sending me flyers about relatives killed in various wars. Too many.

Island Report 13 Aug 2013 18:08

Apart from that Rollo. Do you have any hobbies or interests that you would like to share/discuss?
Btw Reunited is one word :-)

Nothing wrong with loonies Guinevere - as long as they are the right sort :-) Maybe a wums board?

George, I agree. Ain't going to happen though is it?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 13 Aug 2013 18:12

Oh whooppeeee that's one for me, Guinevere :-D

BTW how does one know that one is a loony, perhaps one is sane and everyone else is in a parallel universe...

I doubt that my hobbies and interests would be of much interest on the new board.

Let's see .... "Go", less used languages ( Old French, Manx ... ) , cryptography, hunting birds with guns, wooden boat restoration, Holley carburetors, tying Woolly Buggers and the like, Hasselblad film photography, French cinema noire, French ornithology as seen from a sidewalk cafe ... and so on.

I guess I might get somewhere with the UK national and global sport of find the tv remote control. Sky have a nice big chunky one but ours (from Virgin) is a slim black silky affair which likes to hide down the back of sofas.

It took me years to suss out what "Corrie" meant.

So no, I doubt if I shall find any kindred spirits for my hobbies on Gru.

Ogling women as you sip your cafe au lait - I'm sure there are plenty of like minded members on GR Rollo ;-)

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 13 Aug 2013 19:30

yes but I'd only get RR'd
;-)

When working in Paris I hooked a super one who more than made up for the Essex girls.
-D

(sorry about the mixed metaphores) :

ps:
cafe au lait is school boy French, use "une creme"
as in "Je voudrais une creme, s'il vous plait, monsieur"
tip: NEVER EVER refer to a waiter as "garcon" it is insulting, so is clicking yr fingers. The waiter will attend in strict order of anticipated tip so it helps to wear some bling.
Ordering a "grande creme" on the Champs Elysees would involve serious stress for your Carte Bleu (VISA card) and so the locals tend to stick to "une noire" (small black coffee, sugar, no milk).
