A Sainsbury's checkout girl refused to serve a customer who was on her phone.

http://dailym.ai/14oaU4x

As far as I am concerned it's just plain good manners to speak directly at / with someone and put one's phone down / away until the conversation has finished.

Sainsbury's gave the customer vouchers - and apologized to her, too, to rub salt in the checkout girl's wound.

Again, as far as I am concerned ....

Good on ya! You Go, Checkout Girl!

I agree with the checkout girl. After reading the link to DM. it would appear Sainsbury's have no such policy...well it's about time they had!
It's the height of bad manners talking on mobile while being served. When I worked in a shop we had permission to say to customer on phone 'I'll serve when you've finished your call.'

Serious lack of good manners in the world today imho

Same on buses. Very rude to the bus driver and very annoying when you're behind someone on their phone, who then rummages one-handed for their purse, tries to open it and retrieve money. Finally gets ticket, then goes through the same rigmarole in reverse!!
All the while, the rest of us, usually with money/bus pass in hand are listening to this very boring conversation, which is usually explaining that they're getting on the bus!! Lucky them - the rest of us aren't.

Even more annoying when it's raining :-|

... not only there, Maggie but at the airport. I was stuck there for hours last week and some chap was on his phone and another was behind me. Oh, SO infuriating and so noisy and impersonal. Felt I could have contributed handsomely to both conversations .....

Now, if only I had a Winchester 73 the conversations could have ended much sooner...

I don't think there is always somebody at the other end of the call.

I think it is a way for them not to feel alone or vulnerable to have a phone clamped to their ear.

It is out of order to continue a phone call when you're in conversation or business with someone.

the other week I was in a queue for ages at Sainsrisscos. When I got to the till the checkout girl said "sorry about the wait". I said "you look fine to me but I have heard Weight Moaners can be quite good". I am still reeling from the cuff around the ear.

It's about time someone stood up to mobile phone users who are rude and with no thought for other people . We came home on the Manchester Airport train to Leeds we had a girl sit right next to us and she was on the phone the whole way we were exhausted with her voice and unfortunately there were no other spare seats available OH did say something but it was ignored> :-|

in time with evolution people will be born with one very big ear and some people will require surgery to have their phones removed

I agree with you, Sharron. A friend believes the mobile has taken over the cigarette in times of stress.

Love it.

Think all shops should make sure that no one uses a mobile phone on their premises.

While I'm at It, I am really annoyed at the loudness of music in stores - particularly so in restaurants and eating establishments.

It's often impossible to have a conversation or merely enjoy a meal.
I don't know who chooses the radio stations, either, but they have poor taste in my view with head banging stuff set to a very loud volume.

Yuk!

On the subject of mobile phones.

I think we have the technology to obliterate the signal as soon as you turn a vehicle engine on. The only way to answer is to pull over and switch the engine off.

I turn my phone off when driving, In fact I turn my mobile off and leave it in the car glove box when shopping, eating out or visiting places like the doctors.

I have a mobile. Never need to turn it off - no-one ever calls me :-P

Actually it's usually at the bottom of my bag, so I can't hear it even if anyone DOES call me.

Friends & family know, if they really want a chat, to call my landline :-D

We've seen cyclists riding along one handed using them the past week. One was a mother with her young daughter, also on her bike..........what a dangerous example to set her daughter!
