To MTG

I certainly do not think you are any of the people I mention in my OP, infact I feel you are smiling when you post thats how they come across. :-D

Guinevere Report 22 Jun 2013 08:15

We need more threads like this -

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/general_chat/thread/1326728

and less of the petty point scoring.

Off to work now. That thread that Purple posted has given me a real lift - quite a change these days.

I feel an undercurrent too and I feel very uncomfortable at times. The constant sniping and the unpleasant comments about posts being RR'd. If I reported a thread I would be terrified to say it was me. Admittedly some RR's are silly but not all. Would a new poster really want to post on a thread with a title containing the word "douchebag"? I wouldn't think so.

Someone makes a goading comment and instead of ignoring the comment there is an instant outcry and frankly I find some of the comments nasty. Then of course we have the "get back" threads and when the original goader comes on he/she is accused of following people around the boards and then we get another thread and on and on it goes.

If it wasn't for the dear friends I have made on this board I would have left long ago :-(

Lyndi

Lyndi Report 22 Jun 2013 09:49

I also feel that undercurrent, and now I have noticed the 'ownership' and 'policing' of threads starting up.
Certainly reading some threads on here is very unpleasant and uncomfortable at times :-(
Members sometimes talk about things in the past being worse, but I never saw any of that because for the first years of my membership I didn't venture on to the chat boards.

But I have digressed from Hayley's brilliant OP ;-) :-D
Sorry Hayley :-D I need an Off Topic emoticom ;-)

One of my funny memories of my stiletto heels is getting one heel stuck in a grid, the heel snapped off and I had walk home with one leg inches shorter than the other lol :-)
The old wooden escalators were also a dangerous area for the heels.

A few weeks back a friend looked in on here, I posted a thread about it, saying what she thought about chat, she wasn't impressed, so I looked at chat as though I'd never looked in before, some of it wasn't nice reading, I saw too many posts sniping at a particular member, whatever it was they posted, if they posted about the weather, it was pounced upon, saying things like, how comes it's raining where you are, it isn't raining here, and we only live 300 miles apart ! ridiculous.

As for the r&r stuff, I really can't believe that some people can spend an hour or more, on a thread, talking about a thread that has been deleted, and saying the person who r&r'd it must I've a total moron, who sat in a room all day with no mates to talk to. I could save a lot of people a lot of typing, for every thread that is r&r'd blame me, I'm confident enough to not let it bother me, that someone thinks it's me, at least it'll leave others alone.

I've been on here since year dot, seen it all, had all sorts thrown at me, like the member who posts the village of where I once lived, used my name in various threads, but of course they didn't mean me, no of course they didn't. There was also the time where I was accused, on the boards, of being the person who drove a member try to commit suicide, yep you read that right, thing was I was on holiday at the time, and the accuser was later outed to be an absolute liar on most of there antics on GR.

So, I will not stand by and watch if I think someone is being hounded, I will say so, because it isn't right, if you sit back and watch, the hounders carry on, and more join in. I will r&r threads if I think a post isn't suitable, then leave it up to GR to either reinstate the post or delete it, whatever they do, I won't lose sleep over it.

This is a genealogy site with a chat room, it's not a place to score points, or use words to shock, having worked with offenders, I don't think there's many swear words I haven't heard, but wouldn't think to tell what they are on here.

Have a great day everyone, I'm off out to see some beautiful gardens, even if the weather is awful and like a winters day :-D :-D

I think we have missed this type of thread for some time. And OP was brilliant - not seen anything so funny AND thought-provoking for some time.

No malice towards anyone, but gentle pricking of some precious bubbles. We all take ourselves too seriously at times, we all generalise about people far too much and every single one of us needs a reality check occasionally :-) :-)

Brilliant Hayley. Look forward very much to the birth of your next "baby" :-D

And I posted before another post I thought was brilliant - from Lynda :-) :-) At least I now know who I can blame for all the reports I have had :-(

Good morning Campers :-D

Very good post Hayley (it does remind me of our old friend ;-) :-)) I agree with many things said and often have to sit on me hands when I see snide comments :-( ....often 'look in' before bedtime and quite often resist commenting.....unlike last night....but hey if no-one agrees with me (excepting one I should say).... just pretend I'm not there :-|

I have been a member for a very long time, at first I wasn't aware of chat boards as too busy searching, but once I dipped toe into the pool I really enjoyed chatting .
My renewal is now due and first time ever I'm having second thoughts....only here now for the few friends who are still members.

Have to say Hayley I loved high heels too :-D but recently have to buy shoes for comfort :-(....I tell the young shoe assistants ' look at me winkle-picker toes' :-0 and 'look after yer feet'....but will they listen? well did I? ;-) :-D

Afternoon all.

The rain has finally stopped, and the sun is shining, so I'm smiling again!!!!

I like to think we can all rub along on here, what is the point of not.

I did not come onto the boards for a long time, I was a bit dubious to be honest, but when I did, I got a welcome, and I hope new people will dip their toe in.

Just putting on me heels now so that I can click-clack off down the road.

;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Silly Sausage Report 23 Jun 2013 09:18

I have to agree with a lot of your comments that were posted yesterday....for those of us that have been about for years this sniping is nowt new, I think most of us have seen much worse and at times found it very alarming. I cant even be bothered to bite anymore when I see the wumming, but I have a laugh at them that do.

I have been no angel on here, most of you remember and cheered when I was slung of this site by me ear'ole.

However I still see the attention seekers and those that make it their one mission in life to be RR I think what WTF? I must be getting old but sometimes the devil in me just has to take the p***. ;-)

JustJohn Report 23 Jun 2013 09:30

Well, I think you get younger, more attractive and wittier by the week, O royal one. :-) :-)

Did not know that you had been in trouble and slung off. But I get impression in past that some of the aggro would have been pretty personal and horrible.

At least now lions lie down with lambs - a little uneasily at times. But we all are trying :-) ;-)

Silly Sausage

Silly Sausage Report 23 Jun 2013 09:36

John it went beyond personal for a few of us, and yes I pushed my luck to the limit and paid the price in the end. I still went to meets but *sighs* there is a life beyond GR you know :-D
