Not long ago we were reminiscing on the culinary delights of our childhoods in France and England. One of these was Westons "Wagon Wheels". I had not seen them for years and years.

My OH obviously listened because she has brought home two packets of "Wagon Wheels" one red, one blue. Those in the red packet have jam. The taste and texture is pretty well as I remember them (with jam) but they seem to have shrunk no end. Also the red & yellow western packaging has been replaced with solid color.

Has anybody else found these chocolate monsters of yester year? Do you think they have shrunk ? My OZ rellies say that their's are bigger.


Ah, those days. Laramy. RawHide. Bonanza, LOTM. Sill hats and feather head dresses. Toy shot guns and rifles with explosive caps ( now banned ), Bowie knives ( banned too ), friend's sisters bound up as prisoners to be rescued ( and so they could cook some sausages over a fire ), Wagon Wheels...

Their faces gaunt their eyes were blurred and shirts all soaked

They're ridin' hard to catch that herd but they ain't caught them yet

As the riders loped on by him he heard one call his name,
"If you want to save your soul from hell a-riding on our range,
Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride
A-try'ng to catch the devil's herd

Remember wagon wheels they are tiny now oh still enjoys them .use to like yo yo mint biscuits.everything seems to have shrunk these days .or is it when we get older eye sight problem :-D Barbra

After they were Weston's Wagon Wheels they were Burton's Wagon Wheels.

We had a packet a couple of weeks ago.

Was only thinking about caps the other day.Used to love em.I had a little bomb thing where you kept the nose on with an elastic band I think because you could take it off and put the caps in.

If all else failed you could set them off with a hammer.

my butler always says they are smaller now to :-D

And riding home from school with our coats around our shoulders lol can you guess I was a tomboy :-D

I think all sweets and choc.bars seem smaller now but then I can recall the very day sweets came off the ration.To us children everything looked enormous :-D

I'm in Oz, and I reckon our Wagon Wheels have shrunk!

I remember thinking they were HUGE when I was twelve :-D

So, everything gets smaller except the gas bill :-(
I've munched the whole packet last night only the red debris remains ...

OH has also found Maynard Wine Gums another treat I thought had gone forever.
She has also found popular French chocolate biscuits (Le Petit Escolier - little school boy ) in Lidls of all places, so she is happy.

I had a few of those little bombs too, they were meant to simulate grenades. One day we found an old ww2 phospherous bomb which was used as a trophy for weeks before the grown-ups latched on. What a kerfuffle.

Got 10 for £1 this morning from the local greengrocer.

wonder if its just we have got bigger rather than wagon wheels being smaller

remember moaning about how small mars bars had become and then they popped up with biggest bars ever on the label

i know a lot of stuff has shrunk to keep the price low and hoping no one notices
biggest fiddle is poundland a lot of their stock is brought in at a smaller size made for them by the manufacturers so as to keep to £1

They used to be much larger that now,almost the size of a saucer,I used to flog them for Stantons Bakery in(Guess Where) Wolverhampton. :-D :-D

And the marshmallow things,are they called tea-cakes?

terryj - I always thought a Freudian slip was a Victorian undergarment.

Merlin - I was in Wolverhampton only the other day.

Mersey - we have a stall like that here. It is like stepping back in time. My (aging) mum still won't buy me one no matter how many times I tug her sleeve. Come to that, she won't let me ride in the Postman Pat van outside Sainsburys either.

Yep them too....omg!! I could set me own stall up on here lol :-D :-D ;-)

Have you tried lying prone on the floor screaming and hammering your feet and fists?

I have not even let Fred know about the Postman Pat van. He does have a packet of Penguins in the cupboard though!
