Depends... lol, over winter when I'm covered up then I wouldn't be bothered ( no one to see!) but I wouldn't go out with bare legs or underarms showing like she has...but, it's her choice.

lol There was an 'Avon' chap in his 50s probably who used to drop off a catalogue to me, he was white haired and always wore a shirt with the top buttons undone and he had really long curly white chest hair showing, that made me feel a bit queasy..though I don't object to chest hair as such...( not on myself obviously lol) :-D

The plus point is as you get older you get less hair on your legs and underarms, and arms.

eh? I can still plait mine :-( :-(

Not for me either *shudders* even though when I lived in Spain it was socially acceptable to have hair everywhere I can't say I was entralled by seeing it :-0

Rambling Report 4 May 2012 22:57

I must be older than you then Sue ;-)...but the minus is of course that you get hairs where you didn't have them before :-|

On the subject of hair...why is it that bald men can grow a beard ?????

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 4 May 2012 23:15

Probably the same reason I can...lolololol

Seriously no idea and I'll swap ages with you :-D :-D

I hate beards full stop. Even worse, is older men who don't bother to shave for a day or two and get grey bristly faces (like Steptoe) - YUK!!!

I'm of an age where leg/underarm hair grows less, but 'Desperate Dan' hairs sprout in 2 minutes on the chin - usually when you have a Very Important Appointment.
Chin is checked in the morning - random 'Desperate Dan's' despatched with tweezers - get back in the evening and there's one hefty black 1/4 inch long thick hair sprouted in the middle of the chin!!!

Nice :-S

What really gets me, is that my (dyed) head hair is white, I have 'badger' brows, but the hairs on my bl**dy chin are black!!! :-|

Cant bear to look. Had my underarms waxed once and they never grew back until recently. Maybe I'm getting younger.

Don't much like beards - male or female - I'm with Maggie on the tweezers.
Can't bear to look at those beards that hang down the chin on men and worse still when they plait them. What a subject eh. I think I'll stop there!

my brother started losing his hair in his 20s, but he usually had a beard.

A couple of years ago he was fed up with what was left of his hair (he said he was fed up going to the barber to get hair cut that he couldn't see!). So he shaved his head. Egghead, Mr Sheen, Easter egg, all sorts of names.

I told him his head was upside down.

A few months after that he shaved off the beard. He said he looked like a potato. So the beard is back.

My "pet" hate is baldy men who grow what's left of the hair at the back and tie it into a ponytail. Dislike that almost as much as combovers.

I will never forget the sight of a female - had to be in her early 60s, in eastern Europe - wearing a pink bikini, straps undone, b**bies resting on her stomach, dyed RED hair (on her head), what looked like mohair socks (natural), and everywhere else needing a lawnmower. ewwwwwwwwwww!

Winter is short here, so I keep "trimmed" :-D

I'm also at the stage of tweezer mornings :-D

Like Rose, I sometimes don't shave on a regular basis but only when I'm covered up. For example I didn't shave my legs for a week recently but I was wearing jeans all week.

I do think the woman has a point about societal imposed gender norms. Lets face it how much pressure is put on men compared to women.

Muffyxx Report 5 May 2012 11:02

Have to admit I haven't shaved my legs because I haven't even thought of doing it lately ...too busy being nurse...but if I were going to bare my legs (hardly ever) then I'd be straight up there with the razor lol. Armpits are absolutely obligatory though.

I agree with what you're saying re the stereotyping and though i think it looks horrible...all power to her armpits for making a stand I say lol x

"My "pet" hate is baldy men who grow what's left of the hair at the back and tie it into a ponytail. Dislike that almost as much as combovers." I agree 100% Scozzie :-S

As for the other - yes I know it's natural to have hairy armpits and leg hairs but I'm afraid I'll leave that look alone :-0

ChAoTicintheNewYear Report 5 May 2012 11:10

Muffy, I shave my legs if I'm going to be wearing a maxi dress lol. I only tend to not shave if I'm wearing jeans and even then it tends to be no more than a few days. The main reason for not shaving for a week was I'm planning to try home waxing so left it but haven't had time to do it so ended up shaving. I'll probably leave it again and hope to find the time and courage to try waxing in the next week or two.

I'm afraid I'm not brave enough to go without some form of depilation although I admire this woman for doing so.
