.......this is why I can't remember rushing home from school in 1956.......

Blue Peter was first aired on 16 October 1958. It had been commissioned to producer John Hunter Blair by Owen Reed, the head of children's programmes at the BBC, as there were no programmes in existence that catered for children aged between five and eight. Reed got his inspiration after watching Children's Television Club, the brainchild of former radio producer, Trevor Hill, who created it as a successor to his programme Out of School, broadcast on BBC Radio's Children's Hour; Hill networked the programme from BBC Manchester and launched it aboard the Royal Iris paddle steamer on Merseyside with presenter Judith Chalmers welcoming everyone aboard at the bottom of the gangplank........jl

I must be getting old because I cannot remember rushing home to watch tv, maybe because childrens tv was on in the afternoon while I was usually at school. The wooden tops, Andy Pandy, Rag tag and Bobtail along with many others too long ago to remember. It seems to be all about quantity these days rather than quality :-) :-)
