Red Kites, Puffins, Starlings. Longtailed tits are lovely to watch when they chase round and round in shrubs - how do they manage not to crash into twigs?

My favourite birdsongs are robin, wren and blackbird Then there's the evocative mewing of buzzards which tell me I'm in big country away from the city :-D

Easter Bunny

Easter Bunny Report 4 Apr 2012 14:11

I think my favourites are the crows. Partly because I feel sorry for them that so many people dislike them and partly because they are so cheeky and so clever. I love watching their antics.
Every day I put something out for the birds to eat. Most often it's bread or cake and some berries and seeds. Yesterday I put a handful of monkey nuts on the wall. A few moments later I looked out of the kitchen window and saw seven crows in a line just staring in at me looking forlorn. They kept glancing at the monkey nuts and back at me as if to say ,"what are we supposed to do with those?" and "where's our breakfast?".
Then one of them picked a nut up and flew off, the others followed. I took some bread out and put it on the wall and came back in. Ten minutes later
I looked out again and the nuts had all gone and the bread was untouched.
Today I have gone out 3 times, first with a stale hot cross bun and some monkey nuts, then twice more with more monkey nuts. The crows fly straight down and snatch them up :-D

I am fascinated by the birds of prey, and the owls especially.

Favourite garden birds would be goldfinches, robin, and the tits of all kinds.
Really I like them all, even sparows.

If I had to choose one bird, it would be the skylark - takes me back to long summer days as a boy wandering the marshes.
There were always skylarks singing overhead.

Don't really know much about birds apart from feeding them so, this year put up a box and see if they nest.

Island Report 4 Apr 2012 17:16

Gannets!
Beautiful colouring, easy flight and amazing when they dive, the added bonus of which is where the gannets are diving there is a great likelihood of catching sight of cetaceans :-D

Aww this is great......must admit every time l see another bird name l think "how could l leave them out"

The Cormorants and Herons are so agile and remind me of the prehistoric birds. Love watching the Cormorants drying their wings, and the Herons balancing waiting to pounce.

Our Crow is a regular. Very clever birds. Years ago my cousin had one that kept pinching the pegs off the line and at a neighbours, so they drove it 50 miles away, it got back home before they did....lol ;-)

Hi everyone .. I am new to this so please be gentle with me. I read all your messages but a bit nervous to join in in. Anyway her goes................. Up until last year and for four years running two mallards namely Dorothy and Donald visited our pond in our small garden. Each morning they would arrive, "duck and dive" do the dirty deed " d and d again then sleep. Stay until dusk then fly off together. She always made her nest just up the road on the roof of a neighbours garden. She would then come alone for a quick wash and brush up and something to eat and fly back. The street kept a look out for her on the path calling her babies to drop down. Then she would walk them down to us and get them on the pond. 13 was her biggest brood. My OH made a little house for her to use for a couple of nights then he would catch her and the chicks and take them to the local marina.I,m so sad she didnt come this year but I have a jenny wren nesting in some ivy.
