I used to iron everything .but got older and wiser.

When O.H wore a suit to work, I always, made sure his shirt was neatly pressed.
Now, during winter months nothing gets ironed. ...Haven't ironed anything since November as I use BC's stretch and fold method, or put it in for a tumble and take it out and fold while warm.

Might find the iron once summer blouses and dresses are needed.

I never iron anything, stretch & fold when warm, OH only wears shirts to funerals and when needed I take it next door to MIL (aged 85) who irons all her washing every week. (She's only owned a washing machine for the last six months always washed everything by hand up to then and she wasn't pleased when we bought it for her!!) Monday was ALWAYS wash day, not now, she does her washing when she feels like it as she can get on with her gardening while it washes itself. :-) :-)

Except for finished cross-stitch, I have not ironed anything for years.

If I see an article of clothing in the shops that I like that is my first consideration - will it need ironing to keep it looking that way?

If the answer is yes, it goes back on the rack. I don't have many clothes either!!

I would much rather spend my time "looking for dead people" as my daughter calls my family tree obsession!!

If anyone wants anything ironed in this house they have to iron it themselves ;-).

Have always hated ironing and when I was first married, in the dim and distant past, I had to have a glass or two to tackle the pile .... came as a big shock :-0 :-0.. Have never ironed beding, towels or socks and undies.

My Mum was a presser in Johnstons the Cleaners , after she left school ,she ironed everything in sight. Dad's shirts always looked like they had just come out of the packet, they only thing missing was all those ruddy (oops) pins.

My Dad was pretty good with the iron aswell and cooked a good roast on Sunday.

Now apparently on the grounds of health - teacloths of all things should be ironed. The heat of the iron kills off any little bugs which could have survived washing at 40o and below.

I have always ironed mine so does OH now - just liked an ironed tea towel - did not know about the health issue. This I read recently in a paper/magazine.

To make life easier for OH I he gives me all the underwear and I smooth and fold and he puts in linen cupboard for a day or two - come out fine. He does curse the fitted sheets!!! Oh I never have ironed towels - hardens them

I send my ironing out - something that amazes and disgusts my mother. It isn't expensive and everything comes back beautifully ironed and on hangers :-D

I iron nothing - if it needs ironing I don't buy it

lovely OH did all the ironing - I broke my right arm once and he had to learn to do it for his work shirts - he got to like it!!

then I broke my right arm again - just to be sure - and he just carried on

since he died nearly ten years ago I have had the ironing board out maybe six times

I iron only what's really wrinkled. Which means I have to iron more in summer than winter, cos summer clothes are usually cotton. Everything else gets folded & put away. Ironing bedding - never, one sleep and it's wrinkled. Tea towels - I only use a couple each week, as most things go in the dishwasher.

Hate ironing. When I get old and wrinkled I'm not going to iron a thing, that way I'll match my clothes. :-)

Only ironed shirts for OH and since being widowed, I can't remember when I last ironed anything. I buy everything 'non-iron'. I also use the dryer and listen for it to finish, then take out and fold linen immediately. I only use the iron when I am re-hemming to suit my size on something new.

I am known for my love of ironing! How sad is that?

Bedding? Yes. It looks and feels so much nicer after the iron has been over it.

Tea towels? Always. Like others, I was taught that ironing killed bacteria on them and, if someone cut themselves in the 'old days', it would be covered by the tea towel because it had been ironed and would be bug-free!

Towels? No.

Underwear? Yes if it's white cotton. I mean, who wants to get knocked down wearing unironed undies????? ;-)

T-shirts/shirts/skirts/tops? Of course - can't bear looking scrumpled or scruffy when going out especially.

OH wore a lot of shirts and most of his trousers had a front crease (still do) ..... I am ace at getting it straight.

I listen to murder mystery audio books whilst ironing and the time flies by. It's also a good time to put the world to rights by talking to yourself. :-D

I like to iron nearly all my clothes BUT I do procrastinate until I am wearing one or two garmets I can get away without ironing.

Then, when I have a pile that looks like the Himalaya and it has festered for far too long, I have a big iron up.

Then, voila, a whole new wardrobe to choose from.

Janet Report 17 Mar 2012 12:29

I iron everything. When the family was at home I used to start by ironing 20 shirts, as I was in uniform, the same as the children. By Sunday evening everything was finished and away. Now I only have myself to sort out I have a mountain of washed clothes waiting until I get in the mood. I hate any form of housework, am happy to leave the pots a couple of days sometimes, but somehow ironing seems relaxing.
In days gone by I must admit that I sometimes judged the standard of ironing when staff appeared at work with creases in their clothes. Seeing someone with a crisp and clean tidy uniform to me meant they had a good woman at home or they were in the forces in a previous life......jl
