What a shame.
Did you know that frogs are dying out all over the world because of lossof habitat.
They are part of the food chain and when there are no frogs there will be no something else that eats them and so on.
You have an opportunity here to do something for the environment and help save a disappearing species.

Kay???? Report 24 Feb 2012 08:30

Rita,,,they have this homing devise.....they return to the ponds where they were hatched!!!thats why I out it straight away, also there is some rule that it shouldnt be moved to other areas,,

my niece last year took over 300 out of her pond when she gave it a spruce up.....she only started with one.!!!she took them in a dust bin to another area, thats why i dont let it hatch althouhgh the odd few eggs escape which turn, but I usually get them out and take them on a car ride ))) to a local naturewalk area.

I started with one wee frog who use to lay eggs in with the fish. Fish loved it. I put in another pond for the fish, now have 3 frogs singing of a night 2 in the frog pond and one in the fish pond. mine are native marsh frogs so will be keeping them. Must admit their noise is like a tapping sound so not too annoying .
:-)

There was a small pond in the garden when I moved here, but I got fed up with having to sort out the frogs I had maimed with the strimmer!
The pond went and with it the frogs ...........at least those who had escaped my strimming!!

I love frogs and toads :-) when we first moved to Wales there were lots of them in the garden, plenty of water nearby, populations declined by 80% due to a virus in the 90s... :-(

Wend Report 29 Feb 2012 12:27

I have just been looking in my pond and there is a frog in there, shall we say, kissing (and I won't say what else) what looks like a dead frog. I can't really be sure though - perhaps it's just exhausted ;-) :-S

Island

Island Report 29 Feb 2012 12:31

If it's upside down it'll be dead, otherwise, it'll be checking it's fingernails.
