How Muffy - take a large dollop of mash, cut up spring onions in it and mix and serve with a knob of butter on top and some grilled sausages - that is CHAMP as someone else has rightly said.

However, married to a southerner (I am from the north) and neither of us would dream to have peppered mackeral (of which OH is very fond for his breakfast) with mash and salad. Salad is to be served with something cold (can never cope with being served salad with hot food in pubs and restaurants) and mash apart from champ is served with gravy.

So I am afraid that I do find your habits peculiar ;-)

Kay - quite evidently you have never had a decent Lancashire Hotpot - mine is to die for and everyone always stuffs themselves with second helpings. You are definitely missing out - should however you require a recipe just mail me.
My highest qualification is that I come from that area!!!!
