Sylvia

I didn't live or grow up in Frinton ...... I come from Lancashire.

I wanted a summer job away from home before I went to uni ............ so I got one in Frinton

First time travelling alone ...... I had to go to London, and then I think I got a train to Clacton and a bust to Frinton!!

and a drunken hotel manager and her paramour to deal with

I certainly learnt a lot that summer!

Hi! Allan. Nice to hear from you. I was living in Farnborough Hants. before coming to Australia but my home town was Walton-on-Naze in Essex. We came to Australia in 1974 so have been here a bit longer than you. I have been to Bunbury, but not lately, and not to Australind.

Sylvia in Canada, I did a similar thing, got a train to London and then another to Chichester in Sussex and worked at a holiday camp for the summer season, was great fun and the best thing I did to make the break from home altho I did go back to live for a while and did temping while I decided what to do next. I had a friend with me and at Chichester station met up with all the other summer employees for the bus ride to the camp.

Happy carefree days.......

Hi Liz

they were happy days weren't they?

Clacton had a Jazz Festival in those days .................. a group of us would go over for the late show, back to Frinton around 2 am, and then up at 6 am for work.

I saw Humphrey Littleton, and Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine (as it was in those days), and a couple of others who were not so famous ............. that gave me a lifelong love of Jazz.

More similarities, before I went to Chichester, I used to go to London for long weekends when I had a boyfriend training as a chef in an hotel there, and we used to go to a club where Humphrey Littleton played, sometimes saw famous people singing, can't remember the names now, except for Elkie Brooks one time and we went back to her home afterwards, and stayed til the Sunday afternoon.

I had such energy then, as you say working and playing hard but such a laugh!

Thanks Jude and Fred. It is good to be back. I enjoy all your Emails Fred, but I don't think I have had any lately. I've just thought, I changed my Email address recently so perhaps that is why. I will send you an Email with the new address on.I hope you and your family are well.

I must get myself some tea now, see you later.

Hello and good morning from Bridget who lives in Spain and moved from Frinton on Sea before moving to Spain. First we had a house in Walton on Naze as a holiday house and then moved to Frinton about 20 years ago.
I have read all the threads and you have many old friends pleased to see you back,
Bridget :-D

Hello Bridget, Puss and Teresa and all my other friends.I am sorry I haven't been on here for a few days. I went to see my son and his family on Sunday and they asked me to stay for a day or two,so thought I would and it is nice where they live, up in the Hills, outside Perth. It is so hot here at the moment 42C and it might even get hotter but it is a bit cooler in the Hills. I always go prepared to stay but never have before.

I wouldn''t have been living in Walton when you were there Bridget as we came to Australia in 1974.I notice that you are researching ancestors in Mere, Wilts. My Grandmother came from Mere. Her name was Alice Hooper, not a relation of yours, I suppose.

I have to get tea now, so will say Goodbye for now. See you all again soon.

I do hope that you are coping with the hot weather. The air temp at home here in Australind was 40c today.

OH and myself are leaving tomorrow for a few days in Albany where it is forecast to be a bit cooler.

Sylvia
I am off now to look at my tree to see if I have Alice Hooper, was that her maiden name or marriage name?

Will be back asap.

SpanishEyes

SpanishEyes Report 25 Jan 2012 13:09

As promised I have looked at my tree on Ancestry and found quite a few Hoopers so I will send a PM to you.
Wouldn't it be fun if we are connected in some way?? :-D

Best wishes
