I know what you mean - this is a very expensive hobby which is why I like Genes. I got loads of help from members when I first started my family history (even though I also spent an absolute fortune on researching myself).

I notice that a lot of your research is in the North East - best place in the world!! I live in Billingham.

I have to say that I don't begrudge the amount they charge for the census as it was a massive job to digitise these records when you remember just how many millions of households there are in the country and all of these records had to be gone through and filmed and then transcribed.

Ancestry only have *summary books* which isnt at all helpful as it doesnt give a whole household only princable name....no information as regards age,job, or married or a parent.....shame really but even they I bet will make a seperate charge for viewing if they had it in full.!!

Genes gave me 30 credits the other day as there was a fault on genes and of cause it only gave me one look up

Kay, ancestry do have the 1911 census and as far as i no their is only England that is not searchable yet but will not be long now before it is, but you can brouse,

their is also a way using the summery books to find someone on the 1911 on Ancestry ( but cannot remember ) i am sure if you ask someone will no how to do it

The 1911 census image is fantastic I tis even signed by the head of the household information includes how many children born to the parents which includes any that have died also gives and address and how long they have been married
