i can cook honest, but im better at savory dishes, cant make pastry to save my life..but can make a lovely manchester tart and rhubarb crumble...my scones could kill someone if thrown and my attempt at making a sponge cake nearly choked my hubby, why oh why cant i cook loverly light cakes and biscuits,do you think its because i didnt pay attension in domestic sience classes.(our class looked over to the football field, much more interested in the boys in their shorts, and im paying for it now .sob sob.) :-D |

That seems like a mighty odd recipe for shortbread. I have never melted anything together. |

took it from a recipe book(thought it sounded strange, wait a min will go and get it......right here we go.6oz butter and 4 tablespoons milk, melt butter in the milk but do not over heat, that means warming it in a pan over a heat on the cooker?mix it into the flour andknead lightly, thats what i did. :-D |

I agree, I make shortbread very successfully in the aga but have made it in the oven too. I never melt anything just rub in and knead the flour, butter and caster sugar together before spreading it all over the base of a tin. It's a mighty strange recipe! |

I wonder if it's supposed to be a shortCAKE recipe rather than shortbread. |

Perhaps Sue,but I always make shortcake with butter, selfraising flour and caster sugar.....binding ingredients together.....there are many variations of course :-) |

I would have thought that petticoat tails was just the pattern of the mould but I don't know either? St michaels have a lot to answer for! |
