Jean (Monmouth) Report 4 Sep 2011 14:57

Yes, we read about crimes every day, but to me this is still too raw to be airedd. i think the actor who is playing the part has a strong likeness to Fred West and has been very brave to play the part, I hope he wont regret it.

An 'Appropriate Adult' is someone who is asked by the Police to be present to represent the person being interviewed if they are considered to be 'vulnerable'. This usually means someone who is a Minor, mentally or physically handicapped or has a low cognitive ability.

They are not there to give legal advice, but to look out for the interviewees welfare. This frequently includes insisting that the interview is halted so that the interviewee can rest, eat/drink or take medication.

Appropriate Adults often hold a degree in Social Work and who are on a Police list, and paid on a casual basis, if they are available. Other Appropriate Adults might be trained in Mental Health.

So although the person may have 'volunteered', she ought to have been paid - quite well!

Won't watch it. Fed up with watching all the misery on tele at the moment. Even the soaps are all doom and gloom. Not sure why he needed an 'appropriate adult' for his police interview. I'm waiting for Downton Abbey.

Nickydownsouth Report 5 Sep 2011 00:20

Watched appropiate adult and wasn`t that impressed...

Like others i feel this is far to recent to be airing "warts and all"

Its their children that I really feel for, I wonder how this woman { the appropiate adult} has been allowed to relesse this information, as she kept saying in the programme that what he {Fred} told her was confidential...this was all only 17 years ago....isn`t there any sort of time limit?? or is she not bound by legalities??

I wasn't aware this was based on information from the 'appropriate adult'. I woulkd have thought such a role wouild be bound by the rules of confidentiality or at least common decency for the sake of the children of the Wests and the families of their victims. Is nothing sacred these days in order to raise the tv rating/viewing figures.

I watched five minutes of it (enough) to see the actors/acting, and to my horror Fred West was played by the lovely McNulty of The Wire....Dominic West! He even looked a bit like him. :-S

Morning darling, BC <3

Vera and Nicky, I read last night that Janet Leach actually sold her story to the daily mirror after the trial for £500.000, also she its alledged that she did give edvidence in Rose West trail and lied and was very luck not to have charged with perjury.

I am gulity of this morbid curiosity I freely admit, I watched part 1 last night and will watch the second part, I thought the acting was very good and the only person that looked like being protrayed as a victim was Janet Leach herself, but its her side of the story being told.

AnninGlos Report 5 Sep 2011 10:20

The remaining children tried to stop it (as I believe did Rose West) but they failed. Imagine living with that horror in your life and then having it all regurgitated years later.

Silly Sausage

Silly Sausage Report 5 Sep 2011 10:26

The younger childrens ID's are closely guarded Ann, but I do believe a couple of the older ones have written a book about their lives. However last night aprt from the older ones no children were named.

As for Rose West what right does she have to have a say in anything, and it certainly wasnt trying to protect her children, and she shoul of tried abit harder to protect them when she and their father was abusing them.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 5 Sep 2011 11:05

Its only a portrayal of events and for legal reasons was adapted on Lynch's chain of events,,,,which may or may not be accurate as the police involved cant deny or admit.

It was pretty good acting.....

lavender Report 5 Sep 2011 17:46

Assuming that they were adhering closely to the shocking real life events, I was surprised that they would have allowed the 'Appropriate Adult' to be left in the same room as him. I felt absolutely petrified for her and kept reminding myself that had she been killed I would have heard about it. It must be one of the most horrific crimes I have ever heard of. Much thought for those who suffered at their hands and their families.

supercrutch Report 5 Sep 2011 18:55

Two of their children participated in a documentary a couple of years ago which was shown on terrestrial TV.

Their language retelling what their Mother put them through contained every swearword I have ever heard.

I imagine the second part of this programme will be as sanitised as the first to fall within public decency guideline.
