Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 25 May 2011 05:04

I had a call from Joyce late last evening, she had arrived in Holland but was still at the airport.. Seems she had felt very unwell either on the plane or after getting off so had been taken to the medical centre to be checked out. Jan was there to pick her up but had to wait while she was given the once over. Apparently Joyce couldn't breathe, and the med.centre people think it's to do with her kidneys. She was told if she felt unwell again at home to call out the doctor immediately. I think all the travelling without food and water on Monday pm might have contributed to her problems but hope it wasn't the shock of my arriving at the meet!

Good thing it happened at the home end of the trip and not while stuck in Sheffield or Liverpool away from Jan. He had gone off to check his car was still where he left it when she called me, so I hope it hadn't been towed away or given a big fine, would be just their sort of luck.

I am sure if she is well enough Joyce will come on here today and let us know how she is, or will call Caz and get her to add news. If not maybe she will text me or ring someone to keep us up to date.

Get well soon Joyce - I have some good photos to send you later.

love and hugs

Just had a phone call from Joyce, she is not well at all and crippled with pain in her feet and cramp. She started to feel unwell when she got off the plane in Holland and couldn't get her breath, of course her inhalers were in her handbag which she had put in her small case. She was in the medical centre till twelve o'clock and she still sounds breathless even now. She was told by the nurse there to drink cranberry juice to help her kidneys as they had something to do with her breathing. She sounds awful now and is going to bed, wish she could get some help for the cramps but her doctor said he can't do anything, does anyone know how to avoid it, I only know it's caused by lack of salt.

Love Caz xx

I haven't had any message, would normally have had a text if Joyce was up to it, so she must be feeling rough.

All the travelling tires her out and especially when she is on a delayed coach journey with no water to drink or anything to eat. She really must take more care as she has diabetes and maybe she hasn't been taking her medication at the right times or at all.

Just to make you laugh, I asked her at the meet if she had tried my tip of keeping a spud down the bed to ward off cramp, her reply: I kept it there so long it started to shoot lol

I really don't think her doctor is any good, they should have sorted her out before now but I also think her diet needs altering too.
Cranberry juice is ok but most of the ones you buy in the shop are diluted a lot, better to get cranberry tablets from h and b, they are more concentrated but you still need to drink lots more liquid as well.

Hope you are soon feeling better Joyce if you look on here

love

Have just had a call from Joyce, she is feeling a little better but still not right. She thinks she might have cracked a rib as when she was on the coach it lurched and she banged into the side or something and hurt herself then.

She didn't sound as breathless as when I spoke with her last evening tho so hopefully once she is more rested and back to her usual routine she will feel better. Seems the cramp is back and worse when she is in Holland than when in UK

crikey

I googled cramp

there are all kinds of causes

low sodium (ie, salt),
low potassium,
low magnesium,
low calcium,
dehydration,
reduced blood flow through muscles
too little exercise,
too much exercise,
drugs (especially statins),
varicose veins,
kidney or thyroid disease

and on and on and on

Poor Joyce!

Liz thanks for letting us all know about Joyce. Pleased to hear that she is feeling a tiny bit better and sounds less breathless.
It's strange that the cramp is worse when she is in Holland than in the UK......I wonder why!

Hoping Joyce got some sleep last night and will take care today as she has a dental appointment. Don't want to hear of her falling or injuring herself if she uses her scooter altho I think she said something about her brother in law driving her to the appointment.

In my prayers and positive thoughts Joyce. Hope that you are feeling a little better each day.
Joyce you really must drink more fluid each day. Fluid levels are very important for us all, may I suggest that you have a small glass of water every couple of hours to stator with and after a couple of weeks try every hour. This would make a very big difference to all the points made on a thread above, you would stat to feel better and you may be one of the lucky ones who also loose weight. Most people would benefit from a glass of water either just before or with each meal.
Thinking about you and look forward to hearing from you as so many other people are.
