Hello all,

My Mum has just turned eighty four and avoids looking in the mirror - she doesn't recognise the face looking back at her !!

Growing old is mandatory - growing up is optional

Susan
with grey hair and wrinkles and wondering how the heck I am my age already.......

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 9 Mar 2011 06:20

It scares me that my son will be 29 this summer so next year he will be 30 and then a couple of weeks later I will be 65 if that makes sense! He was born when I was two weeks and a day under 35.

I have turned into my late mother and because I haven't coloured my hair for months, I am so grey and look even more like her than ever - must get my hair cut soon and get the Herbashine out!

My o.h. has lost quite a bit of weight over the past year since he was diagnosed with diabetes and had to eat differently, he also cycles to work most of the time now as well. He lost his neck for a while but now it's back and scrawny, it looks awful and he is only 56!

I am trying to lose a bit of weight too but don't want to end up with a neck like his, wish I could lose a bit tho but then the wrinkles on my face might look more obvious!

Having lost my sight a year ago I dread to think what my face looks like now.
My daughter and I were talking about it on Sunday ans we were laughing and she said well you just can keep thinking it is the same as you last saw it

My daughter sent me a birthday card a couple of years back with the words. "You are always the same age inside". I try an remember that when I glance in the mirror. But I find it is not me ageing that shocks me. When I look at photos and see my OH at a much youger age then look at him now, I realise just how old we both are!!!

Blimey Mau, I bet that paint dried quickly, It is freezing cold here two miles from the coast but up high near the cliffs where you are doesn't bear thinking of.

When I used to bring my tribe up there for their holidays to stay with my parents, I used to put all my washing out and it was dry in no time, and I didn't have to put any Comfort in as the water is so soft in that area.

I still can't bear to go in the garden yet ( i've become a soft Southerner after all the years I lived down Sarf) the weeds are rampant.

As for age, every one I meet after a few years looks so old, I say to O H do I look as old as her? He diplomatically says I look years younger, self delusion or what?

Keep Well

I used to say I was 35 - it was my dau's fault if she said she wanted to be 25!

My friends all look very old and wrinkly - in my mind I am 38 and do not look in the mirror - close my eyes in hairdressers!

Cooper Report 9 Mar 2011 14:39

I had cataract surgery when I was 40 and had a five year old son at primary school.

I thought I was the oldest parent on the school run and used to chat regulary with the other Mums thinking they all looked years younger than me.

Then I had one eye done, then the other and the Mums had aged an awful lot almost overnight. Lol

hi all, hope you dont mind me butting in! well im 32 and my hair started to fall out when i was about 20 ! it worried me alot as i was only young, but now im just used to it and i dont let it get me down! you cant change the way you look, but on that note you can make choices about your health which in turn makes a big difference, i dont smoke and never have even tried one, but my friends who have smoked since they was at school look alot older then they should, smoking gives you wrinkles and seriously damages your health! also exercise helps you look your age, my best friend is around 40 and weighs about 20 stone, making her look alot older then she is, but its her own fault because she just sits there all day and eats rubbish! grow old gracefully i say but at the same time, try help yourself abit with the rite choices if your consious about how you look. anyway, its only my oppinion, and we all have one dont we! lol.

Hi Adrian and welcome (you're not butting in at all) and of course you're entitled to an opinion.

Sorry to hear about your hair loss, and hope you don't mind if I say, you sound very wise in your outlook to life, your friend should follow you regarding life choices.

I was telling myself that I was doing OK, but now at last, unfortunately, My age is showing on my face, the body went ages ago. I am that very pale, white haired old lady that looks as if she needs a transfusion!

I'm a great looking 30-something year old in my mind

if only my spine wasn't deteriorating and letting me down.

My mind could dance all night

my back and hips can't even dance 5 minutes!

and there's an extra 30-some years been added on

the hair's no longer dark blonde, but shining silver

the eyes see better than they did, cataract surgery is wonderful, and has meant that I only wear reading / computer glasses instead of "coke bottle" lenses

and that flippin' daughter is 37 in a few days.

and today ismy grandson's 1st birthday :)))))))))

When I gave up work over two years ago my granddaughter Maia (she will be 16 end of this month) said to me why Nana you are not old?
I thought what a nice thing to say.

My mind has young days all the time and my body tags along later. Now with my youngest grandchild not quite a month old I feel quite young indeed. I have no doubt Sylvia I will also be saying to young August where did that year go when he has his first birthday.
