....I always think it must be nice never to have made any mistakes in life,, never to have screwed up relationships or fallen for Mr Wrong who looked so much like Mr Right at the time.... but anyway...

Aside from the thread being about whether or not Charles has alzheimers ( God help him if he does...as with all who suffer, their families as well) , it's also questioning whether we believe ( or can believe) what we read... whether journalists ( generalisation of course) are now so lacking in integrity that anything is publishable, whether true or not...so long as it 'makes a good read'?

Frankly, I'm not surprised that some become a little disrespectful when someone talks / writes about Prince Charles. The man has no integrity and has acted incredibly dishonourably in the past. For such a public figure, with such a future, he should either behave himself impeccably or denounce all right to the throne.

Just my view by the way ...

agree with you Jill - no integrity

...like father, like son.
I find Charles quite appealing. Not as brusque as his father, his own interests etc - a very 'human' person. Yes he 'commits' the odd faux pas -don't we all - but ours isn't emblazoned over the newspapers.

I believe his marriage to Diana was a marriage of convenience - something William hasn't had to contend with.

If he does have Altzheimers - it's no fault of his. As with every sufferer, we should have sympathy, both for the sufferer and their family.

Since almost every one is saying William will be a better choice than Charles might it not be worth remembering that Charles has been William's sole parent since he was a teenager who'd just lost his mum.... must have done something right to turn out a decent son I reckon...personally.

he may not be good husband material...or made the right choices....but that doesn't make him beyond the pale surely? if it did half the people on here would have to creep away into a corner.... me included!

which is what I shall do before I get really annoyed!

Rose, I agree wholeheartedy - he is a human - and has all the failings of every other human - but the media hype it all up!

I sometimes feel I want to grab these 'oh so perfect' journalists by the throat and make them tell me why they think they are so perfect that they can comment on others.
Especially things like 'Heat'- show me the journalist that has no 'muffin top', the journalist with the 'perfect' body at 50+ the journalist that has never committed an indiscretion - then I might start reading, even believing this cr*p!!

Heavens,whatever have I started?

I only mentioned it because I hadn't seen it in our papers, and was interested because my "little" sister was diagnosed with this aweful disease when only 47.

I didn't realise that it would turn into a "do we or do we not like the monarchy" debate.

Sorry for any offense caused, not intentional.

I've never minded Prince Charles to be honest. I thought Diana was ok but didn't like the Bashir interview she gave.

Just hope the press report isn't true.

Annina - don't worry - it's been an interesting thread!

Still feel though that if Charles had actually married Camilla the first time around then Diana would not have died as she did. I (me, myself and I - my view) blame him for Diana's death. I'm not a royalist by the way - I find them all really irritating around the edges - but when did the law change? When did the heir to the throne / king become able to marry a divorced woman? And a catholic? What's that about?

Jill

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 5 Feb 2011 22:07

Which is why I would much prefer William to be the heir and not him Jill.

...Annina...this has been a great thread...please don't feel you need to apologise x

Diana died in a car crash, it could have happened any time no matter what her marital state...you might as well say if I get hit by a bus tomorrow it was all the fault of my first fiance, if he'd married me i wouldn't have been in Shropshire this year and not in the path of the number 22....

She chose to be where she was, she was no longer an innocent 19 year old wrapped up in the romance of life ( sad but that's how it is) , she had 'moved on'...

One can't go through life blaming one person for everything bad that happens to you ever after. Diana may have been the 'victim' for a bit, but then she got on with her life, and that ultimately was what made her a bit special.

I'm a bit amazed tbh that Camilla being a divorced catholic should be considered to have any bearing at all, in this day and age, on whether Charles should be king?

Should William be, if religious 'morality' comes into it? after all he has been 'living in sin' for years.

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 5 Feb 2011 22:33

I know what you're saying Rose - and yes, she did make her own choices ...but I do wonder how things would have turned out if Charles had been honest from the beginning.

I saw the King's Speech the other evening - it was interesting seeing David and Mrs Simpson - and him having to abdicate because she was divorced. Why is it different now? Does it mean that they can behave exactly as they choose? I'm not sure I would agree with that - considering that i contribute to their incomes ...

Mrs Grumpy sums it up as far as I'm concerned - Charles should have married Camilla, the only woman he has ever truly loved, but he wasn't allowed to. Diana would then, sad to say, probably be alive to-day and maybe married to someone who truly loves her.

Mind you, I read recently that Charles and Camilla now live quite separate lives - he at Highgrove and she at her old home, but who knows? Can't believe everything you read. Reports say that he's a very difficult, bad-tempered, fussy man and we've all heard those stories about him having his breakfast eggs boiled several times until they're *perfect* for his consumption and his valet having to squeeze his toothpaste for him, etc. etc.

Then again, William and Harry seem pretty well-balanced young men who love him very much, so who knows?

Maybe it's because William and Harry were brought up by nannies and their private schools? Not exactly a hands on dad was he?
