Edward John Smith, captain of the Titanic. Amazing and brilliant but sad McB you must be proud.

SueMaid am I correct in thinking William Barnard Rhodes Moorhouse VC was the first airman to get a VC?

GA my other half just came in the room and saw your posting and said she knew Mrs Vera Shufflebottom and she ran the village shop. You made her night as she liked her and got on well.

How far back .on my side 1677

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 29 Jan 2011 07:49

1540 on my side, ca 1725 on OH's (but need more proof of that last one)

Hughes, Robert, Jones, Wynne, etc etc ........... all in Wales

Possible connection on OH's side to Cuthbert Hayhurst who was on the 2nd Fleet of Quakers to Pennsylvania in 1682...... he died 6 months after arriving, and his descendants were mostly excommunicated from the Quakers in later years.

Now if I can only prove that he is connected to the 1725 birth

nope, no interesting or funny names .................. all very boring, using the same names over and over again
