Penny and Vince in 'Just Good Friends' - they really don't make them like that any more !

I have just seen "Clayhanger" available on DVD on Amazon!

"The Sweeney" was so good before the age of political corrrectness.

"Just Good Friends" got over 20 million viewers for the final episode when they got married.

Now the TV bosses are delighted if they can get 8 or so million.

I remember lots of these, there always seemed to be something to looked forward to each week to watch. I still love the old comedys, 'Morcombe and Wise', Bless this House, and of course 'Dad's Army'. which still makes me laugh out loud. 'Wish me Luck' is on 'Yesterday' at 4.pm each day,am really enjoying that. Anyone remember 'The Onedin Line' thats just finished on 'Yesterday'. I'd forgotten how good it was. 'All Creatures Great and Small'? the list of GOOD TV is endless, but sadly years ago!!! I agree, ther are no comedy's thatI look forward to watching today. Remember Les Dawson?!!!

Oh yes - we used to watch Ironside and Perry Mason as well as Emergency Ward 10. Cagney and Lacey was good because it showed what women police officers could do.

How about The Prisoner? OH still watches that if he can find a re-run and The Avengers.

On the US ones, how about Quincy? Watched the original airing then they used to run repeats at about 2pm after Neighbours. That has slipped into family lore; I used to nod off during it then wake up during the closing credits and ask the offspring 'Who did it? Woe betide them if they turned over as I'd wake up - lol

Loved 'Thorn Birds' with Dr Kildare - that was another one (sigh)

Oh yes Thorn Birds, Richard Chamberlain, so handsome and I have recently discovered that he is Gay. What a waste!!

Ah Kate - Loved the liver birds too. Liz Estensen still looks good in Emmerdale after all these years. I have to agree about 'Some Mothers' - Our tastes do change, don't they? Another unmissable, for me, was 'The likely Lads' & 'Whatever Happened to....' James Bolam still a great character actor.

Karen - Manhunt was about 1970 with Peter Barkworth. - Which reminds me to add possibly the 'Marmite' show (You either love it or hate it) - ''Allo.'Allo - still cracks me up when repeated.
Isn't it fun to saunter round the haunted wing.!

Soldier Soldier another great show...it made a star out of Robson Green...who before then had been the hospital porter {Jimmy??} in very early Casualty...

Loved Waking the Dead....read today they`re not making anymore, but apparently are doing a spin off about the forensic lady played by Tara Fitzgerald....and Trevor Eve`s producing it or something!

Inspector Morse...just the music alone, let alone the brilliant performances from John Thaw and Kevin Wheatley

Talking Kevin Wheatley no ones mentioned Aufiedesehn{sp} Pet yet...wasn`t a huge fan myself ,but many were....

And Bread....another huge hit for the BBC.....wasn`t everyone in love woth Joey?

and last but not least...Londons Burning...Sunday nights just arn`t the same...

Here's one for you all. Does anyone remember 'Champion the Wonder Horse'?!! Now, that WAS way back in the mists of time. My Granny used to go to sleep when the music started the programme, and woke up when the music came on at the end!!!

Donkey's years back, my brother used to like 'Noggin the Nog', but it scared me a bit.
I don't remember the actual programme Champion the Wonder Horse, but i can still hum the tune!!! Well, I can sing the words now that MG has put them up - twice!!!! LOL
How about 'Laramie', 'Bonanza', and 'Alias Smith & Jones'...remember them? Not forgetting Rawhide? I was about 5, but I didn't half like Rowdy Yates. I can still hum that tune too!

The names of the characters are quite X rated now. How innocent we were lol

2) Underworld Mobster Al Capone couldn't bribe either Ness or his ten men who came to be called "The Untouchables."

3) "Book 'em, Danno" - Hawaii 5 O

4) "Hong Kong" the TV series that made Australian Rod Taylor a star.

5) "Route 66" it may not have been a crime show but I would watch Buz & Todd every week

just as my kids used to watch every week

6) CHiPS - and we had such excitement here because Erik Estrada came to NZ

7) Mrs Peel in her black leather outfit (definitely not a problem for wardrobe) - "The Avengers"

8) Heartbeat

9) The Knock - where they were always eye balling.

10) But give me any day the more recent "New Tricks"

Elizabeth loved Boys from the Bush - where every week Tim Healy would say "Bloody Melbourne" Nadine Garner the actress in that plays a cop in an Aussie program called "City Homicide"
Around the same time as Boys from the Bush we had Yosser Hughes saying "Give us a job" and "I can do that" in "Boys from the Black Stuff"

What is strange is that back then we seem to have been inundated with Westerns. Now it is police stories. When was the last time we had a western on TV

You are so right Ann,

Televison didn't start till 1960 here in NZ and I think we got our first TV in 1962 - we only watched a few hours in the evening and every night we had a western - Laramie was on a Tuesday and Rawhide rolled into our living rooms every Friday night.

Several years later in 1970 when I worked in a suburban Post Office Savings I used to rush home after late night Friday to watch a crime show " The Mod Squad" - now that lot do look so funny now.

Favourites of mine tho were the serials like " Family at War"

It had the most mournfull music and the picture of a bare light bulb just swinging,

It was Edward Woodward who played the lead and he had a 'informant' called Lonely...

I was only a kid at the time but it alays made me feel really sad.

Loved Family at war Perse.
