Annie from NZ, if he wont let you use the dishwasher, hand the rubber gloves to him and tell him to do it from now on. Then cook and use everything in the cupboards and draws that you can find, like they do when they cook.

There is also only 2 of us at home, so only used once a day, sometimes a day and a half before I put it on. Mine uses 18 litres per wash, my sink holds 24 litres of water, which I would be using 3 times a day without the dish washer, so saving water and hot water as well, our electricity bill has not changed using the dishwasher. So there is an economy in using them.

Hi all,

I have tried many many times to get him to help me with the dishes, with the latest attempt last night. Every time he finds some reason to get out of it and I end up getting shitty with him. The only time I get a break from the dishes is when his kids come to stay with us at weekends, I get them to do the dishes.

He was at home for quite a while a few years ago recovering from spinal surgery and he always cooked the evening meal so the deal was then that he cooked and I did the dishes. Since he has returned to work he makes me cook and do the dishes. Now he has selective hearing when I ask him to help. I have started making him cook at the weekends to give me a break. Have tried and failed to make him see that I spend all evening during the week in the kitchen while he's on the couch in front of the fire or in his chair watching the telly.

Also I have got the top drawer of the dishwasher full of stuff, so am now working on the bottom drawer LOL : -)

Hi all.

Well I'm just back from camping. Now, you should have seen their washing up facilities....It was one sink/drainer, outside, cold water only,no plug infact the waste pipe wasnt even there, water just went on the ground.

Weather was great and my wee basin came in handy..

Hi Marion, glad you had a good camping trip, see you don't need a dishwasher, nothing like doing it in open air ha ha.

WELL we are thinking of having the kitchen remodelled . the current one was put in with my redundancy money in 1989 so is very outdated and the carcases aint worth just putting new doors on .BUT the Miele one stays even though its now about 4 years old . touch wood it aint broke down as yet and i don't think it can be bettered ,well not at the price it cost lol

Hi Shirley

Check out the new ones for quality first, before you plan ditching yours.
You can paint or get old ones sprayed, dont know much about it though.
Or just put new handles on them.
