So , Ronnie Biggs is to spend the rest of his natural behind bars
Shame cry the prison reformists, shame cry the hand wringing liberals.
HE's old, he's had x number of strokes.let im go
This is the man who took the P***s out of the judicial system whlle enscosed in Rio, flaunted the law, and basicaly said "catch me i you can"
So when he started ailing his first shout was take me back to Britain where i will be looked after not here in South America .
Has Justice been done .

He had many years of freedom living the life of Riley, leave him where he is. If you cannot do the time don't do the crime.

I am in two minds lol. I wouldn't want him being freed 'to die' to become a precedent for freeing just any prisoner with poor health.

But, given Biggs role in the robbery, I think that a degree of clemency should be given now. Had it been someone else, or rather another type of crime ( Brady, , Sutcliffe etc you get the jist) then my opinion would have been definitely not.

Now he is an elderly man, in hospital just up the road from me, ailing, and with penumonia, a broken hip and possible a broken vertebra.

While I agree he should serve his term, he is now ill and frail, absolutely no threat to society, and will probably die soon. Surely as a human being he should have just a little bit of dignity on his deathbed? He needs his family around him, they need to be around him. I see no point in keeping him in prison any longer.

see now I am going to have to argue against my own argument lol...I did that once in an exam, I argued one point of view, and by the time I got to re-reading it, I had the opposite view ...tuts....

He is doing the sentence for the crime committed. OK, they know he is probably dying but there must be plenty of prisoners who die without much warning and they don't get to spend time with their families before they go. Why should it be any different for him?

He's not even IN prison, he's at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital, his son is with him now.

I agree Lynda, it is a political call. Repentant or not, he's no threat now, he can't even feed himself, can't speak, can't walk.

To be honest I don't care one way or t'other.

He'll be living at the taxpayers expense wherever he is I expect.

He did the crime,some one died because of it, he escaped doing the time,and proceeded to take the pee out of our Country,living the good life .why did we bother to get him back? he should have been left with his family where he was in Brazil,**M**.

As regards Ronnie Biggs - I dont give a monkey's where he dies - just like he didnt give a monkey's that someones dad/son/father/ died at the time of the Great Train Robbery.
