Hi Muffy, like others I know how you feel. It's the quality of life that counts though, and you having him on your lap last night was pure quality for him. Cherish that, hon.

As for him being put to rest today, some years ago we witnessed a terminally-ill cat being kept alive, against the vet's advice, by his owner who "loved him too much to let him go". The vet was disgusted with her, and she didn't even have the guts to bring him to the vets herself. That poor cat was so unhappy, so take heart that you're doing this out of love for your boy.

Take care.

Will be thinking of you Muffy.

Sadly, grief is the price we pay for love.

I know exactly how you feel, our l6 year old cat had to be put to sleep a couple of years ago, but he was not well, and it was the kindest thing. We had him ( and his sister who had died before him) cremated, and their ashes are sprinkled in the garden.
I will be thinking of you today,
Kind regards, Liz

Thinking of you this morning Muffy, I said no more cats a few years ago (12 July 2005) when I lost one of my old boys - after 6 months of an empty house though I was down the cats home for one and then the vet told me about another and now have four 'second hand' ones.

They will never replace my old boy, but even though its hard to imagine you find even more room in your heart in the end.

God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you,
And whispered, "Come to me."

With tearful eyes I watched you drift.
I watched you fall away.
I couldn't bear to lose you.
I couldn't ask you to stay.

A golden heart stopped beating.
Shining eyes at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove us
that he only takes the best.

It's a hard decision to make, Muffy. You do know though that's it's a reward that you give a pet - letting them go with dignity. He deserves that after all the joy he's given you.

Dear Muffy

I know how hard it is to say goodbye to a beloved pet.

But he will be at peace.

Very sincere wishes

Thanks for the support. I have to confess I'm starting to wobble a bit
.........I know I have to go through with it for his sake...he's been a lovely fella........he deserves a dignified ending.

I'm going to float off and try and sleep.

Thanks again x

Ooooh Muffy - sending you both a (((((((hug))))))), it is a very hard thing to do I know, but we know it is for the best.

I agree with Mrs G - I said no more two cats ago - I think because I can't be hassled to fill in the cat flap on the back door, I feel I need a cat to go through it!

Be brave.

Its a hard decision to make but the most kindest thing to do when that time comes. They are part of the family and its upsetting when we loose any animal however big or small. Think of all the happy times....
