Hi Lynda :-) I don't think I'm trying to say that if you're not looking for good, that you're negative,

I can't really describe it properly as this thread is really nothing do with with life on these boards :-)

I do feel that I'm being more negative than usual by putting a more negative slant on something that was said (in conjunction with other things) that perhaps I wouldn't normally have picked up and analysed to such a degree. Hence the reason for this thread.

Re first impressions, I'm not saying that my first impression that someone was good was wrong. The person may be a genuinely nice person with a few flaws being revealed (only human I know) that make you question things a little more deeply as you get to know them. So your first impression that someone was nice may still be the case but there's still something that may slightly unsettle you. (call it instinct lol) thanks Tania for that, maybe that's what it is.

Personally in real life I tend to follow my gut feeling which normally turns out to be correct, or maybe it's just my misfortune to be able to see the bad without wanting to.

That does not mean I am not polite to everyone I meet and treat everyone with respect, including those that make my skin crawl.

However, if anyone steps on my tail I will bite. On the other hand my OH only sees the good in people and has he been burnt over and over again.

I think there is something to be said about instincts too, (although for me these aren't the same as first impressions).

I usually see the good in people, Lesley. Most people are basically good, I think, although we all have a dark side.

I haven't met anyone who I would call evil but I have met a few I'd prefer to avoid in future.

I'm not sure first impressions are always reliable, I work with teenagers and some would try the patience of a saint but once you get under the shell they can be lovely.

I'm always happy to meet anyone new and I only see the good side of them at our first meeting. On rare occasions, I have had a 'creepy' feeling about someone and I chastise myself but I usually find out later that there is a reason for that feeling. Can't remember that I have ever been wrong with that.

Yes, Lynda, I remember Sue Maid inviting people over to Oz, too, and I was one who accepted. Is it still on, Sue Maid? lol

Oh Gwen posted a thread on peas originally, I don't think she likes them lol

I posted a youtube link for her which contained a little song about peas (theme tune I think) I thought she may have liked it.

Now I know that I should have pm'd it. However, I couldn't see anything in the T&C though. Was I very naughty?

We all have instincts when it comes to people,they are ancient senses and we should use them.
I find that the impression I get as soon as I meet someone is always the right one.
When I was younger I used to ignore it but always in the end my initial instinct was right.
Lynda is quite right about other peoples behaviour too.
I have tried so hard to teach the kids that how people behave in general cant be ignored,no matter how you think they are treating you
For example you meet a man he treats you beautifully buys you flowers but when you go out to dinner he talks to the wait staff like c*** wake up and smell the roses,those are the true colours.
