Sorry,Quidsgra for causing offence. I trully didn't mean to be rude, it must be the northern humour. I didn't realise that there would be a serious reason for Googling Knickers for Afrika.Come on, you must admit that the thought of typing that into your comp is a bit bizzare. I also raise lots of money for charity, and manage to keep a sense of humour ,even when folk call me the witch because I love cats so much, and spend so much time making patchwork quilts to raffle for homeless and neglected animals.

I am nudging this up as I catch up with threads as I think the Knickers for Africa is a very important way to help those poor women. Please do start a thread up Quinsgran, maybe we could do something to help. I will have proper look at the site tonight, am too tired to concentrate now after my jaunt to see Dutch and all at the Liverpool meet at the weekend.

Annina, glad you managed to fix the balaclava, I go my son one from Tschibo but he said it kept riding up. Maybe he needs some old bloomers sewn into his lol

The local New Zealand netball team were going to Africa and with the help of a local underwear business were asking people to donate new underwear for this good cause.

Knickers4Africa was started by Emma Donovan from the Rotary club High Wycombe and are doing a very good job helping those not as well off as we are to protect them from being raped.

Underwear costs the local women 2 weeks wages.

Knickers4Africa also collect second hand bra's and baby clothes.

Any offers ? How about starting a thread

Something we all take for granted., However the status linked to owning a pair of underpants has a significant impact on the lives of women in Zimbabwe.
In Africa that item of clothing is the main protection against violent sexual assault for young girls.

Owning underwear means you are viewed as "someone"so less likely to be raped

Hi all, Nina here, this thread slowing down so I thought I'd let you all know the answer. My son rides a big moterbike, and among his riding gear is a balaclava type thingy he wears under his helmet. This was too small and he wanted me to perform a miracle with it.The best solution I could come up with was to take a piece out of an old pair of stretchy shorts. that meant that there was already a hem for his neck and just had to sew the rest in like a gusset. OK, so it wasn't strictly speaking, knickers, that was one of the options we thought of, and when I made a joke about his rough tough biker friends laughing at him with his mums ceks in his helmet, it was he who suggested that I put the idea on here.Please, don't ask, I only have a limited amount of old pants to cut up!!!!

I had already given up, I thought it was all done and dusted and it would remain one of the many questions I would never know the answer to....

I picture a 6ft biker with a lug through each leg hole, nice soft gusset under chin, elasticated top neatly and lovingly Im sure stitched around the inside of the helmet

In my defence ( back to the name tags) all my clothes, bedding. books and nic-naks had to be labeled .......the only thing not labelled was my illegal stash of ..................... smokes.
