Am getting abit worried about mine

Not sure about 'senile' as such, but yes they suffer from the illness' of old age ..... what are the symptoms Hayley?

Yes animals go senile.......................why your cat acting funny? probally living with you. lol

When our cat was about l5, he started to get very lazy and slept a lot, although he stayed very affectionate. He did not eat very much, but still caught the occasional mouse or bird. He did not become incontinent - he stil used the bath if he was taken short! He died when he was 16 and is still missed.

How old is the moggy Hayley? all animals (including humans) lose brain cells as they get older (I've lost most of mine I think).

My son's dog stares at the wall on occasions, fixated..........and she's quite elderly now, as did my old doggie towards the end.

Unless there is a physical problem I dont think there is much you can do about it, except take the cat to the vet and explain the problem.

Just make sure it's loved and cared for, as I'm sure you do anyway.

Sorry Liz to hear about your old boy, yes do do miss them we lost out dog last year and miss him although we have 3 more. each animal is different in their own way.

Thanks everyone she is an attention seeker she was 10 in our years in Jan.....she is like having a toddler at times, she asks for food doesnt eat it and carries on sitting in at the cupboard she is in and out the door....she tried climbing in my boots tonight as I was taking them off.....or she is just being naughty and doing stuff she knows she shouldnt..

sometimes older cats develop thyroid problems
this can slow them down mentally and physically
so worth having it checked out if need be

My old cat was eighteen years old ( he was put to sleep nearly two weeks ago ) , he had certainly lost most of his marbles and had taken to wandering.........although I miss him I'm glad I don't have the worry of where he is anymore.

Grumps how do you worm them? pmsl....just before I dig myself in a very large hole......

One of our dogs did definitely do senile, so I assume it can happen to cats too:(

Amanda, good age for him we put cat to sleep couple of weeks ago at work and that one was 23yrs, felt so sorry for it as it was just skin and bones, don't think i would have kept mine going looking like that,

Helen , my old Toby was nothing but skin and bone at 18........I can't imagine what a cat of 23 might look like.........bless him.
