Yes, I agree with you TW about the people who spoil debates by their childish behaviour. I do sometimes respond to support threads for people who are members but who I don't know well. I have seen how people feel better for knowing that lots of people are thinking of them and their troubles so don't feel insincere if i say i am thinking of them when they need support (gosh what awful grammar, sorry).

David, no I know you never have ignored me, for that, thank you.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be there Ann, not at all, but yes there are days when the board seems to be full of them.

Personally, I find it difficult to reply to these threads if they are people I don't even know, as it would be insincere, and I would rather post a sincere reply, than one with only 'the right words'. Thats not to say that those who do reply to them are being insincere..of course they are not, but that is how I personally feel about my own replies to these kind of threads. Anyone will tell you I will show genuine concern for people I know, and even try to help in a practical sense when I can.

You mention debates, well there have been some good ones on here too, but like general they are few and far between, because, in the case of both boards, there are people who cannot recognise that a different opinion, is not bullying, but simply what it is, an opinion. That has spoilt both boards equally.

Hello Julie:)
I usually look on the first page of both but I haven't seen much to interest me on Gen for a while. I suppose people post the same on both boards cos they think what they have to say is really interesting or really important:))

I never ignore you, Ann:) I think there's as many hugs and support tosh on this board as on General and as many threads I find dopey on here as there are games threads on Gen. There might as well be just one board really.

Are there really that many about illness/support TW? I hadn't noticed more than say three. But if they are not to be put on general where should they go, they do help people and, actually, if you read say Daffs support thread you will find there is not much about illness but a lot of light hearted chat and banter.

I do agree that there are a lot of game threads, but i usually ignore those and somebody must like them as they stay up the top of the board.

We do have some good light hearted threads though, the Aaargh the Change thread is really very funny for ladies of a certain age. Then there are the informative threads like the birds one. and there have been a couple of good debates recently.

I have to say sometimes I come on chat and all I can find are, to me, silly threads. But then people are enjoying themselves so as I said before, each to his own. Pity everyone doesn't post on both boards though then it would not feel divisive. I posted on chat twice yesterday (don't ask which thread as I can't for the life of me remember Lol! but I was not answered either time, so the fact that you felt ignored on Gen is no different to me being ignored on chat.

For me the problem with General now is that there are so many threads on there, talking about illnesses, positive thoughts for xxxx, or the plethora of game threads, there is really nothing I want to add to on there any more, and if I do, my comments are ignored anyway, so I dont feel I'm welcome to join in.

At least here there is a bit more variety of the less depressing kind.

It's only my opinion, which I recognise is not necessarily the same as others.

Joy, I guess the reason Chat feels more like the old Gen is because the people who used to post on gen now only post on Chat. Gen has suffered quite badly by people like Colin from Hampshire leaving because of all the nastiness on the boards.

No way to try and deter peeps when they're determined to have a row, Berona - have discovered that myself. And pondered on the question of how to express oneself in a way that people will know whether I am joking, or not. Offending people is not really my bag. I also don't really know how to take everyone who posts.

Not a lot, Julie. Sometimes I forget it is there, and think of this as the general board now :-)

I like the bar description :-)

* ponders - I wonder what happened to the success posts; yesterday when I came to the site, there were 6310 and now it is 6315; in-between those times, the number went up and down a few times to 6316 :-)

I dont use Gen much any more although I do look in and occasionally post.

I never thought it ever would be, but the Chat board is like the old Gen, and the Gen has grown up a bit & seems a bit posher LOL !.

You know, Gen could now be the sirloin and Chat the scrag end :o)))

AnninGlos Report 16 Apr 2009 09:27

I read and post on both boards.
The long threads that go up on Gen each day are usually of a long running subject such as the Anxieties thread and daffs thread, Birthday girls (card makers) thread and others similar. I ignore the A-Zs but some people like them and each to his/her own.

Some people don't come on Chat because they are not comfortable here, there has been quite a lot of nastiness on here over past weeks so they steer clear. There is also sometimes quite a bit of what some people would term 'rubbish' on here, but as I said each to his/her own.

I think subjects that are duplicated it is usually by accident because of the fact that different people post on different boards.

Live and let live I think, both boards suit different people, nothing wrong with that.
