Bells to ring in memory of 96.

Civic bells across the city will ring 96 times at 3.06pm on Wednesday April 15th in commemoration of the Hillsborough disaster 20 years ago.

The city's two cathedrals will ring their bells and churches across the region are also being urged to play their part.

The bell ringing will be followed by a two minutes silence across the city and in all other Merseyside authorities. All civic flags will be flown at half mast and all trains, buses and ferries will come to a standstill. Both Nottingham and Sheffield are also following suit.

Shop and office workers are being urged to observe the 2 minutes silence which will be led by the Lord Mayors of each three cities.

Councillor Steve Rotheram, who is leading on a series of Hillsborough remembrance events, said: "We hope that everyone will observe the silence and show their respects to the 96 people who died and all those who have been affected by the disaster.

"Hillsborough affected so many lives, not just on Merseyside but across the whole of the UK. I attended the match 20 years ago and the passing years do not diminish the importance and the poignancy of this occasion. All the Hillsborough remembrance events that are taking place are a symbol of the fact that we will never forget the 96 Liverpool fans young and old Liverpool fans who lost their lives."

Thousands of people are expected to attend the moving memorial which takes place at Anfield from 2pm on Wednesday April 15th.

I was at home when this happened and had a telephone call from my sister to switch on the TV.

Hubby and I were transfixed in horror at what was being broadcast.

Two weeks again I read the original and latest interviews of those involved it still makes me feel physically sick.

The following few days also showed a certain newspaper to be the most callous in the UK, that front page I will never forget either.

I am sad that the victims and their families still do not have justice.

there was a bit on bbc1 earlier, football focus I think....really heartbreaking watching interveiws with people who were there, one couple had lost both their daughters, the dad had to decide whether to go with the one in the ambulance or stay with the one in the ground.....awful decision for him to make. I cannot imagine what he (and anyone else who lost loved ones that day) went through.

When you walk through a storm,
Hold your head up high,
And don't be afraid of the dark,
At the end of a storm, there's a golden sky,
And the sweet silver song of a lark.

Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown...

Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone...

Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone...
