no way ... at least if she's anything like my step-daughter ... not until she's old enough to guarantee that she will keep everything scrupulously clean!

Plus, I'm not sure I'd want to encourage one so young to flaunt her belly at everyone - LOL. Give it another couple of years.

Karen I have a 14 (going on 18) year old daughter and the answer if she asked would be no. I have mine done so I know how difficult it can to be look after when it is first done (I have friends who it went wrong for and ended up with infections) also not sure if your aware but I believe the legal age to be 16 for this.

i dead against but hubby is ok about it,which really surprises me,i didn't think he'd think it was ok.
so at the moment i have a daughter that is having a major stropping session.

Debs,
you can have it done from the age of 13 with parental consent, 16 without consent,

No way, mine wants hers done and she's 16, she wouldn't keep it clean enough, i've dug my heals in over it. My friend had a dreadful infection when she had hers done and she's a nurse and looked after it properly - it wasn't nice at all!!

My daughter is nearly 15 (April) and has wanted both her belly button and nose peirced for nearly a year now. I have told her a definate NO. When she is 16 I am hoping she will have changed her mind.

My mum wouldn't let me have my ears pierced, she always said "if God had meant you to have holes in your ears then you would have been born with them". As soon as I left school at 16 the first thing I had done with my first months wage was have them pierced.

Incidentally mum had her ears pierced when she was 65. Guess what I said to her. lol

I was hanging out with a friend when we saw a woman with a nose ring attached to an earring by a chain.

My friend said, "Wouldn't the chain rip out every time she turned her head?" I had to explain that a person's nose and ear remain the same distance apart no matter which way the head is turned.

You have my sympathy Karen.........I have three daughters , all more than capable of being headstrong harpies...........lol

It was the youngest that let the friend pierce her belly button , that was just a few weeks after the middle one went and got her tongue pierced !!

I was hopping mad about that and phoned to complain to the tattoo place that did it , pointing out that daughter was only 14........they brushed me off with some tosh ie not their responsibility etc , so I wrote to the local paper and had a jolly good rant , naming them etc . I think they have tightened up their procedures since then .

Amanda ( no fan of teenage daughters nor body piercing........lol )

my niece has her tongue pierced she spends half her time with her tongue out she looks so silly if only she could see what she looks like, as far as a belly button pierced I can't see the point, ears yes but then I am a bit old fashioned I guess.

A few years ago we had several girls at work who went for piercing. They started at the top and worked down.

Some got as far as their belly buttons, but others then went even further down (in their knickers, if you get the idea)

Ears are fine, Mrs Baggins had hers done 33 years ago, but after that, a big NO.....!

At 14 i wouldn't let my daughter have one done, the thought that they could get it caught turns me stomach....especially as i had mine done and it worked it's way out ( through the skin ) so i pulled it out

blackrose Report 8 Feb 2009 18:21

definately not, I wouldnt want her flashing her belly at anyone - they think they are grown up at 14 but its a very dangerous age.

Karen, take a look at the following site : www.dermnet.com. This is a picture atlas and database of 23000 photo's of skin diseases. On entering the site, press 'view all categories'. Lists of diseases which are alphabetically arranged, then appear. Go to list K and press Keloids. Don't want to scare your daughter, but this is what can happen if the healing process isn't normal. They aren't uncommon im plastic surgery clinics. Ear piercings are particularly problematic. Most people sail through ok, but it isn't all plain sailing and perhaps it would help if she saw what could go wrong.

Keloids are more prone to people who are of African & Mediterranean descent & they often run in the family

So if none of the above apply then the chances are it ain't gonna happen
