Show them the vets bill and ask them once more not to 'donate' scraps or maybe tell them a white lie and say for health reasons the vet has reccomended your cat has a very specfic diet, so while the cat might like the extra food it could be killing them??
or
Call the councils pest control in if there is a rat/mouse problem and they will no doubt go and speak to them.

If it were me, eldery or not I'd be having strong words with them, as however well meaning their actions, those actions could kill your cat. As for wrapping stuff in plastic thats a danger to your cat and every other form of wild life that vists your garden, I think most children know not to litter as its dangerous to animals.

Taff Report 7 Feb 2009 16:13

lol, Barb,. it's broken bones that started this!!!
I will have to pay them a visit, and just have the vets bill to hand.
I really cant allow then to injure my cats, however well meaning they are.

No more pussyfooting around. However elderly they are they are being irresponsible and they need to be told that if they do it again you WILL ask them to pay for the vets bill they have already cost you.

As an aside, we had a ginger kitten when I was growing up. He grew to be a real greedyguts with a qualification from RADA. He had a limp from being run over and he would limp very badly and suck his cheeks in to make him look skinny if he thought he could scrounge food off of strangers!

One set of neighbours installed a cat flap which was a bad move as Tiger would steal their cats food. Then my mum got a new neighbour who hated cats. Not for long though, within 6 months Tiger was allowed into her house to sleep on her bed and she would feed him the gourmet cat food. He also loved scrounging chips with tomato Ketchup on off of my OH!

He lived the life of Riley to the ripe old age of 22

My cat is skinny, she doesn't eat a great deal and sits at her dish chewing very daintily, I know my neighbours feed her but she does go to stay with them if we're away, so I don't mind but I would be cross if they gave her anything but cat food, we don't and the only treats she has are cat treats.
Pass them the bill Taff, maybe they don't understand and if they keep it up, then I'll senda in the heavies lol

Wow! I'd be really mad if I were you. What very odd behaviour.

Even if you go over with the vet's bill, they might keep throwing over the scraps without the bones. Perhaps your vet could write a letter and make them see sense?

Just an update....... you wont believe this!
I "bumped" into them accidently on purpose last evening and told them about the vets and showed them the bill. I then said " So now you really MUST stop feeding my cats.
Their reply was......... "well your other cat can eat them".!!!!!!
To that I replied, " If I have to go to the vets again, with any similar problems, YOU will be footing the bill!!"
Si if I find one more bl@@dy scrap in my garden, I will call the RSPCA.
Thanks for all your support.

I know SRS, they beggar belief dont they?
But I am deadly serious, I will report them to the RSPCA, if I find one more morcel of scraps!!

PME

PME Report 8 Feb 2009 11:28

What so your cats are going to have a sit down to disscuss which of them fancies risking its life each time a bag of 'scraps' is thrown over the fence?

Honestly its unsociable behaviour, if it continues get every organisation you can to throw the book at them.

Absolutely idiotic behaviour, have you thought of maybe doing a bit in the local press about the danger of feeding other peoples pets? If your local press is as short on stories as mine seems to be they would probably jump at the chance to print an actual story.

Hopefully they will stop doing it now. Tell them you saw a huge rat run off with a bag.

ChAoTicintheNewYear Report 8 Feb 2009 12:43

I've read this thread with amazement and disbelief. How arrogant of them to assume that they know best just because they are older. What do they think the cats do when they throw these bags over??? Open up the bag and take the food out. Then they want to injure your other cat too, by having him/her eat them. If it happens again send them the vets bill and get the local newspaper do an article about how they're endangering your cats.
